Special Education Programs

In the UAB Special Education program, there are three concentrations and three degrees based on where you are in your career.

If you are currently a special educator or looking to start your career, we have concentrations in Collaborative Teacher Special Education (K-12) and Early Childhood Special Education (B-K). We also offer an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Special Education with a Concentration in Collaborative Teacher Reading.

Another offering is our graduate certificate in supporting individuals with exceptionalities, which serves as an add-on specialty to any of our bachelor’s degrees in education or those pursuing careers in occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling, nursing, and other similar professions. The certificate provides expertise on the best way to support individuals with exceptionalities, such as autism spectrum disorder, emotional disturbance, intellectual disabilities, or speech-language impairments.

These classes control the overall appearance, as well as the showing and hiding via CSS transitions. You can modify any of this with custom CSS or overriding our default variables. It's also worth noting that just about any HTML can go within the .accordion-body, though the transition does limit overflow.
