The Division of eLearning and Professional Studies offers several templates to help you build your course. Instructors can request to have all or specific components of the eLearning template to be placed into their Canvas course.
New Self-Service Option
UAB eLearning has shared our Canvas course templates for 24/7 self-service imports available in the Canvas Commons for all instructors. Follow the directions linked below to access and import the desired eLearning Course Template item. Please Note: Users who would rather have eLearning place the template in the course on their behalf can fill out the request form below.
Template Components
All templates include the following standard components.

Course Homepage
This is the landing page of your course. It contains information on how to start on the course (including instructions to read the syllabus), a link to a Canvas tutorial, and buttons for each week of the semester which link to a corresponding module.

Course Information module
Contains editable pages to guide you through introducing your students to the course and beginning to build rapport and instructor presence by introducing yourself. This module also contains interactive introductions to netiquette and tips for being successful in an online course.

UAB Policies and Resources module
Contains required UAB policies such as Title IX, Disability Support Services (DSS), and course withdrawal. It also includes the updated COVID-19 DSS information, a list of services available to students, and technology support information for the most used academic technologies supported by eLearning.

Syllabus Page
The Syllabus page includes a sample syllabus fileand a sample format of the syllabus page that includes a short template of information that can be edited by the instructor.

Module Structure
Additionally, there are unique module structures to help you organize your weekly or unit content. There are 15 customizable weekly modules that contain a module overview, pages for instructional materials (including embedded videos), placeholder discussion boards, and a wrap up page. The templates for hybrid, remote, or face-to-face courses include schedules according to the day of the week.
