In his 45-year career with DuPont, Lanny Floyd specialized in electric power system reliability, electrical safety, and risk mitigation in plant construction, operation, and maintenance for global operations. For more than 25 years he had responsibility for improving management systems, competency renewal, work practices, and the application of technologies critical to electrical safety performance in all DuPont operations. In this role, he helped achieve break-through performance in electrical safety. Prior to 1993, DuPont was experiencing a fatality from electrical contact on average every 33 months. When he retired in 2014, DuPont had demonstrated breakthrough performance in fatality prevention from electrical hazards, having gone more than 21 years without a fatality from contact with electrical energy.

He joined DuPont in 1973 and held a series of assignments in engineering support to manufacturing operations, including facilities design and industrial electric power systems operations and maintenance. In 1979 he transferred to DuPont Engineering as a consultant in industrial electric power systems maintenance and reliability and held various assignments in electrical technology and safety management. Lanny retired from DuPont in 2014, holding the positions as Principle Consultant Electrical Technology and Global Electrical Safety Competency Leader.

He is a member of Electrical Safety Advisory Committee of the NFPA Fire Protection Research Foundation. In recognition of his leadership and contributions in advancing electrical safety, he has received awards from the National Fire Protection Association, Electrical Safety Foundation International, and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Active in IEEE since 1984, he is an IEEE Life Fellow. Lanny is a professional member of American Society of Safety Professionals, and maintains certification as a Safety Professional, Electrical Safety Compliance Professional, Utility Safety Professional, Maintenance & Reliability Professional, and Reliability Leader, and is a registered professional engineer in several states. He has authored or co-authored more than 70 published papers and articles on occupational electrical safety, and has given more than 150 presentations on electrical safety at conferences, seminars and webcasts.

Lanny and his wife Pam live in Elkton, Maryland.
