Jianyi “Jay” Zhang, M.D., Ph.D., T. Michael and Gillian Goodrich Endowed Chair of Engineering Leadership and Chair of the UAB Department of Biomedical Engineering, has been selected as recipient of the 25th John Foerster Distinguished Lecture Award by the University of Manitoba’s Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences in Canada.

Zhang accepted the award at the 25th Annual Naranjan Dhalla Cardiovascular Award Ceremony on November 2, 2023, in Winnipeg following the Award Symposium where he presented the lecture, titled, “Neonatal Heart Regeneration in Large Mammals.”

“I am humbled to have been honored with the John Foerster award,” says Zhang. “I was thankful to be in the good company of many impactful cardiovascular scientists.”

The John Foerster Distinguished Lecture award recognizes lifetime contributions to the field of cardiovascular medicine and is awarded to a senior investigator in the field. Previous recipients include Vladimir Jakovljevic, M.D., Ph.D., a professor of physiology at the University of Kragujevac, Ali Marian, M.D., professor of Molecular Medicine and Internal Medicine, Director, IMM-Center for Cardiovascular Genetics, James T. Willerson Distinguished Chair in Cardiovascular Research at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and Jeffrey Robbins, Ph.D., former co-director of the Cincinnati Children’s Heart Institute, to name a few.
