Central Alabama Water will begin work on a watermain extension along 7th Avenue South starting Aug. 10, which will close the sidewalk and parking lane between 15th and 16th Street South for about a week.
This is the first phase of a larger watermain replacement project along 7th Avenue South. Pedestrians and drivers should expect the following impacts during construction:
- North side of 7th Avenue South: The parking lane will be closed. Barricades and "No Parking" signs will be posted.
- Sidewalk: The sidewalk on the north side of 7th Avenue South, between 15th and 16th Street South, will be temporarily removed and rebuilt once the new line is in place.
- Traffic: 7th Avenue South will remain open in both directions but will narrow to a single lane through the work zone, directed by flaggers.
A second phase of the project will follow at a later date. Details will be shared as they are finalized.
