Become a UAB Mental Health Advocate.

UAB or UAB Medicine faculty and staff who complete one QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training session and one Mental Health First Aid session will be awarded a UAB Mental Health Advocate badge to add to their email signature line. A UAB Mental Health Advocate badge provides employees with a platform to showcase their dedication for creating a psychologically healthy workplace.

Both QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training and Mental Health First Aid are offered year-round via Zoom. See dates and registration information for 2023 below.

    QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training

    QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training offers hope through positive action. As a trained QPR Gatekeeper, you will learn to recognize the warning signs of people in crisis, and will have the skills to act vigorously to possibly prevent a suicide.

  • Mental Health First Aid

    Mental Health First Aid

    Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adults. Participants will learn common signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges, how to interact with a person in crisis and connect them with help. Mental Health First Aid education also provides information about resiliency and the ability of individuals dealing with psychological issues to make a positive recovery and draw on their strengths to stay healthy.

    This Nursing Continuing Education offering has been reviewed and approved for ABN: 7.2 ANCC: 6.0 contact hours. UAB Hospital’s Center for Nursing Excellence is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Alabama Board of Nursing (Provider No: ABNP0055, expiration date: June 1, 2021). UAB Hospital’s Center for Nursing Excellence is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Alabama State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. (Provider No: 5-69, expiration date: July 7, 2023).

    Email uabeacc@uabmc.edu to register; registration closes 10 days ahead of requested session. Participants complete two hours of online coursework prior to virtual training session.
