Discover UAB (for University employees) provides a comprehensive "first look" at UAB, its core values, essential expectations and important resources. New Hires will receive the date for their Discover UAB session from Talent Acquisition. Employees will also have the opportunity to speak with a Benefits specialist at the optional Benefits session, which is held after the Discover UAB program.

Welcome to UAB! As a new member of the Blazer community, you get to participate in the Discover UAB orientation program. This program will provide information, tips, and best practices to jump-start your onboarding process. The Discover UAB orientation consists of two parts - watching online videos and participating in an interactive Zoom meeting.
Part 1. eLearning course
Please set aside time to watch all of the video modules (preferably before the Zoom meeting). You can stop and start at your convenience; the total view time is about two hours. This course covers the following topics:
• Overview of Onboarding
• University overview
• Compensation
• Benefits
• Staying Connected
• Campus Safety
• Policies & Procedures
• Next steps
Part 2. Zoom Meeting
You will attend a Zoom meeting from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM to welcome you and other new employees, answer your questions, and learn additional information. We ask that you join us with a device that will allow your camera to be turned on if possible. This meeting will cover the following topics:

• UAB 101
• Mission Pillars and Shared Values
• Where are you? Campus Map
• UAB Portal
• Taking Care of Business (your Blazer Task List)

Registration to Discover UAB
A list of new staff is provided to Learning and Development and will be automatically enrolled in the e-learning (part 1) and Zoom (part 2) portion of Discover UAB. An email notification containing access information, links, and a calendar invite will automatically be sent to the employee once enrolled. This notification typically comes the Friday before each orientation.
If you have a faculty member or post-doc that you would like to attend our orientation, please contact Learning and Development at learndev@uab.edu. The deadline to request an employee be added to a Discover UAB session is the Wednesday before the listed session date.
