    University Recreation and UAB Employee Wellness are teaming up for the 4th annual Employee Wellness Appreciation Month, providing employees free access to the UAB Rec Center throughout the entire month of June! Online registration is required to access the facility. Registered participants also receive access to weekly email workshops, events and prizes including...

    • Check in at the UAB Rec Center five days in June and earn 100 points in your My Health Rewards account.
    • Check in 15 days in June and receive half off a one-month membership to URec.
    • Check in 20 days in June for a buy two, get one month free discount, plus a half locker for $15.

    Fact or Fiction: Nutrition Edition Webinar
    June 24, 12-1 p.m., via Zoom

    This Summer of Wellness webinar will cover common misconceptions about popular nutrition topics. Employee Wellness Dietetic Intern Kelsie Kropp will discuss fad diets, nutrition trends in the media, and myths about the nutrition label, as well as what you can do to eat a healthful, nutrient-rich diet based on current evidence while keeping budget in mind.

    Balancing Health and Hustle: The Role of Exercise in Preventing Chronic Disease and Enhancing Work-Life Harmony
    July 31, 12-1 p.m., via Zoom

    Join Amy Carr, instructor and internship coordinator in Community Health and Human Services at UAB, as she delves into the importance of health and wellness in today’s lifestyle, as well as the impact of common chronic diseases. This webinar will go deep into the benefits of exercise, types of exercise, and how to blend exercise into daily life, while also touching on time management and reaching a healthy work-life balance. Participants will have the opportunity ask questions about their specific needs related to enhancing wellness for work-life harmony.

    My Health Rewards Summer Hydration Challenge
    June 5-18

    This challenge encourages you to maintain healthy habits this summer. Eligible employees who are part of the My Health Rewards program are invited to choose a hydration goal that meets your needs, then report back on the days you meet your goal. Points will be awarded at the end of the challenge based on how many days you meet your goal. Earn 100 points for seven days of meeting and reporting your hydration goal; 150 points for 10 days; and 200 points for all 14 days of the challenge.

    Gentle Yoga
    Tuesdays & Thursdays, starting June 14, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

    Join the UAB Employee Assistance & Counseling Center's certified yoga instructor for a slow-paced, less-intense yet challenging experience in a noncompetitive, judgment-free environment. Gain flexibility, strength and coordination and enhance your cardiovascular health, mental clarity and overall wellbeing. Please bring your own mat, two yoga blocks and a blanket or beach towel.
