Mission Statement
The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine strives to ensure equity, diversity, and equal opportunity. During the summer of 2020, we formed a department-wide diversity committee, and in doing so, we pledge to stand against racism and discrimination and to uphold a culture that is both diversified and inclusive.
Members of the committee self-selected from among our faculty, residency program, and staff. Central to each initiative that they tackle will be the desire to increase opportunities within the department for groups that are considered underrepresented in medicine.
We will aspire to address issues of critical importance and align our goals with those of UAB and the UAB Heersink School of Medicine. Diversity and inclusion are imperative to the development of a thriving and innovative department with happy and fulfilled faculty.
