Alabama Resuscitation Center
The UAB Department of Emergency Medicine is a national leader in emergency and acute care research. Under the leadership of Erik P Hess, M.D. Professor and Vice Chair for Research, the program currently ranks 11th in NIH funding among US academic Emergency Medicine departments. Current scientific efforts encompass the realms of 1) acute care and resuscitation, and 2) population sciences. Focus areas include cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway management, trauma and hemorrhagic shock resuscitation, sepsis resuscitation and epidemiology, public health screening for HIV and Hepatitis C, geriatric emergency medicine and systems of emergency care delivery. The Department has participated in numerous international research efforts, including the NIH-funded Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (ROC).
