We welcome visiting medical students interested in pursuing Emergency Medicine residency to rotate through our emergency department, where they will gain meaningful hands-on clinical experience supported by dedicated resident and faculty mentorship.

Fourth-year visiting students from U.S. allopathic or osteopathic school are welcome to apply. Visiting student applications are processed through the UAB Heersink School of Medicine Registrar’s office. Students interested in the rotation must complete the online application through the AAMC Visiting Student Learning Opportunity (VSLO) website. All applications are reviewed and selected through the VSLO platform.

Rotation dates are assigned by the Registrar’s Office and are not flexible. Applications can be submitted through VSLO beginning early March and acceptances are offered on a rolling basis beginning early April. Applications submitted after July 1 will not be reviewed.

For questions regarding eligibility, please contact our education coordinator, Aubrey Luallen at aluallen@uabmc.edu.
