Kaleen Lavin, PhD, Muscle Biology, Primary Mentor: Dr. Marcas Bamman
Kaleen completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at Georgetown University in 2011, where she participated in the Howard Hughes Research Scholars program. After graduating, she returned to her hometown of Scranton, PA to earn a Master’s degree from Marywood University in Sports Nutrition and Exercise Science while working in a pulmonary physiology lab. Supported by the T32 Interdisciplinary Training Grant, Kaleen’s current research is related to skeletal muscle biology in aging and Parkinson’s disease. Kaleen is excited to continue to learn about the power of exercise for preservation of physical and cognitive function into late life and hopes to put this knowledge into practice when she grows up.
