Kathryn (Katie) Henley earned an MS in Health and Exercise Science from Wake Forest University and a BA in Health Sciences from Gettysburg College. After her dad sustained a spinal cord injury (SCI) from a fall, she joined the PhD program in Rehabilitation Sciences in 2013 in order to pursue research examining the role of exercise therapy on recovery after SCI. She is currently working in the lab of Dr. Candace Floyd in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the UAB Heersink School of Medicine. Her project examines the combined effect of activity-based rehabilitation training and a novel catalytic oxidoreductant on motor recovery, neuropathic pain development, and oxidative stress and inflammation in a rodent model of cervical spinal cord injury.
