The Annual UCEM Symposium brings together close to 200 exercise scientists and trainees from the Southeast and has focused on the role of exercise in prevention of cardiometabolic disease, age-related diseases of cognition, motor control, and neuromuscular rehabilitation with an ever evolving and adapting list of topics. Research going on across the UAB campus and the nation is highlighted through scientific talks and a heavily attended poster session for trainees.

UAB Center for Exercise Medicine 8th Annual Symposium 

Due to COVID-19, the 8th Annual Symposium has been postponed. Dates are yet to be decided.

The scientific symposium includes:

  • Keynote speakers in the field of exercise and rehabilitation medicine,

  • Poster presentation competition for undergraduates, graduates and post-doctoral trainees with travel awards, and

  • Networking luncheon.

Breakfast and Lunch will be provided. 


Trainee Poster Competition - Abstract submission is now open to any current undergraduate, graduate, or postdocs conducting research in exercise medicine from all institutions. Winners will receive a $600 travel award.

Oral Presentation Competition - One abstract will be selected prior to the symposium for a 10-minute oral presentation during the symposium. Abstracts will be reviewed and selected by the UCEM Education Committee. The Oral Presentation winner will also receive a $600 travel award. *If you would like to compete for an oral presentation, please indicate in your abstract submission. Open to trainees from any institution.
