    Born and brought up in a small town in northern India, Harpreet's decision to travel across the length of the country for medical school was largely driven by her to desire to experience a new culture along with excellence in medical training. Continuing the journey, she moved to Birmingham, AL with her husband and two years hence, is delighted to start her residency training at UAB. She aims to pursue a career in academic medicine but is still contemplating on which specialty to choose. Outside of work, she loves to shop( a little too much according to her husband!),read fiction and cook yummy Indian food, all this only when she is not off to Disney world in her precious sleep!
  • Anshika Bakshi

    Anshika grew up in New Jersey and ventured to Boston for her undergraduate studies. Like a true Jersey girl, she returned to her home state to complete medical school. She met her (now) husband, Fabio, while doing a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. Fabio, who is a MD/PhD student at UAB, introduced Anshika to the charms of living in the South. The two recently got married in NYC and are excited to explore Birmingham together. After finishing her prelim year, Anshika will be starting her radiology residency at UT Memphis. She enjoys good food & wine, travelling, exploring nature with her new husband and spending time with friends and family.

    Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Nick grew up in the small town of St. Gabriel, Louisiana. He attended LSU for his undergraduate and medical school education. Nick intends to pursue a career in gastroenterology and practice in his home state of Louisiana. In his free time, Nick enjoys spending time with his wife, Regan, cooking, and watching any and every LSU sporting event. Geaux Tigers!

    Robert grew up in Gainesville, FL and went to college at the University of Florida (Go Gators!). He moved to Miami, FL where he attended Florida International University for medical school and is excited to be moving to Birmingham for residency. Robert is interested in pursuing a fellowship in either Pulmonary/Critical Care or Cardiology. In his free time you can find him with his wife Blaire exploring new restaurants, traveling, taking in the outdoors, hanging out at home with their dog Katie, or cooking up a feast on the grill.

    Stefania is originally from Colombia. She has lived most of her life in Atlanta, GA. She attended Georgia State University for her B.S. and continued on to the Medical College of Georgia. Stefania enjoys working with minority populations and the underserved. She is interested in pursuing a fellowship in global health, while keeping an open mind about other sub-specialties. One of her goals is to work with entities like “Doctors without Borders” that focus on providing medical care to locations in great need. In her spare time, Stefania is an avid reader and likes to spend her time with family and friends. She loves to travel, discover new places, and most importantly try the local cuisine!

    Travis is a proud Kentuckian, born and raised in Louisville. He studied Political science at Centre College before attending the University of Louisville for medical school. During medical school he studied the effectiveness of varying methods of teaching CPR to improve survival from cardiac arrest in the community. He was drawn to UAB by the people and passion for medicine displayed in the program.In his spare time he enjoys basketball, BBQ, video games, and being outdoors. He is excited to explore the wide array of restaurants and breweries that Birmingham has to offer.

    Andrew was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He attended college at LSU where he met his wife and went to medical school at LSU New Orleans. He loved his time in New Orleans, but is looking forward to living in Birmingham and training at UAB. He’s unsure what specialty he wants to pursue, but knows he wants to practice in an academic setting, where he can teach. He enjoys going to concerts, watching sports with friends, cooking, and spending time outdoors.

    Scott was born in Carrollton, GA. He has been a UGA fan for as long as he can remember and attended the University of Georgia upon graduating high school. He moved to Greenville, SC to attend medical school. Wanting to be part of a highly regarded and nurturing residency, he decided to rank UAB number one on his MATCH list and was thrilled to match here! He intends on pursuing a career in cardiology. In his spare time, he loves hanging out with his wife and golden retriever as well as watching the Dawgs play with family and friends.
  • Jamey Hammock

    Jamey grew up in Birmingham, Alabama before heading off to Auburn University for college. It was there he met his wife, Jessica and moved back to Birmingham for medical school. During his fourth year of medical school, they welcomed their first child, Levi into the world! He enjoys basketball, spending time with his family, and getting involved with his church. He is not certain which specialty of medicine he wants to pursue, but is currently interested in cardiology and rheumatology.
  • Ross Hansen

    Ross spent most of his early life growing up in Simpsonville, South Carolina. He stayed in South Carolina for both undergraduate at Clemson University and for medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina. Ross quickly felt at home during his interview at UAB, where he could see a supportive team of residents and faculty, as well as a great place to learn. He is most interested in hematology/oncology and community health. In his free time, Ross likes to spend most of it outside, biking or hiking around Birmingham or eating at one of the many great restaurants in the city.
  • Daniel Hardgrove

    Daniel was born in Texas but grew up in Atlanta, GA. He attended the University of Georgia for college where he started dating his now wife. He graduated from the Medical College of Georgia and moved to Birmingham in order to pursue a career in hospital medicine. He is a huge Atlanta and Georgia sports fan and attends as many football, soccer, and baseball games as he can. With his free time he enjoys exploring the outdoors, playing soccer, watching Netflix, and reading.
  • Stewart Herndon

    Stewart was born and raised in Birmingham and attended the University of Alabama for undergrad. He returned to Birmingham for medical school at UAB and he and his wife, Madeline, are excited to be staying at UAB for residency. Stewart is staying open-minded about his career possibilities, but he is considering gastroenterology and pulmonary/critical care. In his free time, he enjoys going to restaurants and breweries around town and cheering for Alabama and the Atlanta Braves.
  • Chris Ives

    Chris was born in New Orleans, LA (Who dat!), and grew up in Fairhope, AL. He attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA, but returned home to Alabama for medical school at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. He is excited to stay in Birmingham for his residency training at UAB. You may find him around town exploring new food options and sampling the beverages of the local breweries. If the opportunity arises, he enjoys visiting family back home and spending a long weekend at the beach.
  • Adam S. Jaffe

    Adam was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana but spent the majority of his childhood in Gulf Breeze, Florida. He attended the University of Florida for undergrad and Florida State University for medical school (for those wondering...Go Gators!). He is excited to be at UAB for his Internal Medicine training and while not decided on his final career path, he is open to several subspecialties. He enjoys both playing and watching sports, being outside, and cannot wait to explore all that Birmingham has to offer.
  • Ravi Jariwala

    Ravi was born and raised in Birmingham, AL. After venturing off to Upstate New York to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, he was ecstatic to return to the warmer climate in Birmingham to attend medical school at UAB. He is thrilled to continue his residency training at UAB due to the academic and collegial atmosphere expressed among faculty and residents. Ravi enjoys teaching and intends to pursue an academic career with Infectious Disease and Gastroenterology being particularly fascinating to him, although he is open to other subspecialties as well. In his spare time, Ravi enjoys discovering new music, playing his Fender Stratocaster, and riding his bike around Birmingham.
  • Dane Johnson

    Dane was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He moved to Cumming, Georgia at the age of 11, where he completed secondary school. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and continued his education in Athens for medical school at the Medical College of Georgia. He is excited to train in Internal Medicine at UAB and intends to pursue a career in gastroenterology. In his spare time he enjoys playing recreational basketball, spending time with friends and family in town, and strength training.
  • Mauricio J. Kahn

    Mauricio was born and raised in Lima, Peru; where he also went to medical school. After obtaining his MD, he stayed working at Cayetano's Undergraduate School of Medicine for a year, which grew his already existing interest in medical education. Mauricio is very excited and honored to be doing his residency at UAB. He chose the program because of the incredible people he met and the importance given to the role of residents as educators. He plans to pursue a career in either academic general internal medicine or Infectious Diseases. In his free time, you can find him watching sports or reading a fiction book.
  • Salmaan Kamal

    Sal was born in Tuscaloosa, AL. He attended Princeton University, where he developed a strong interest in global health and health policy. Afterwards, he worked as a fellow at a health policy nonprofit in Washington, DC. He returned home to attend UAB School of Medicine, hoping to care for patients clinically while developing the skills to shape health policy and eliminate health disparities at the population level. He intends to pursue a career in general internal medicine, preventive medicine, and health policy. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, playing tennis, NBA basketball, and comic book movies.
  • Reed Stuart LaHaye

    Reed hails from Lafayette, Louisiana, the capital of Cajun culture. He attended college at Fordham University in the Bronx, where he dual majored in medieval studies and history. After much soul/job searching, he attended medical school in Shreveport, Louisiana. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, eating, and listening to music, preferably simultaneously.
  • Alayna S. LeCroy

    Alayna was born and raised in Athens, GA. She attended undergrad at Berry College, where she loved exploring trails on campus. Following graduation, she worked as a phlebotomist before attending medical school at Mercer University in Savannah, GA. She loved the southern charm and coastal life in Savannah, but is excited to make Birmingham her new home. She is interested in pursuing a career in hematology and oncology. In her free time, Alayna enjoys spending time with family and friends, baking, yoga, and relaxing at the lake.
  • Kelly McMaster

    Kelly is originally from Dallas, TX. She attended The University of Oklahoma for her undergraduate education where she studied Microbiology and Chemistry. After taking some time off from school and working for a cardiology group at Baylor Dallas she attended medical school at Texas Tech University School of Medicine. While at Texas Tech, Kelly also earned her MBA in Health Organization Management and participated in local quality improvement projects. Outside of medicine, she loves spending time with her fiance, Zach, and their two cats, as well as reading, cooking, and traveling. Kelly plans to pursue a career in academic primary care. Kelly and Zach are thrilled to be moving to Alabama and can't wait to see what adventures are in store for their small family.

    Jim McPhail was born in Augusta, Georgia. He moved down to Milledgeville, Georgia to attend Georgia College for undergrad. He returned to Augusta to attend medical school at the Medical College of Georgia. He met his wife while at MCG, and they are both very excited to be moving to Birmingham. He intends to pursue a career in GI. In his spare time he enjoys golfing, hiking, kayaking, hunting, and camping with his friends and family.
  • Sam I. Michael

    Sam was born in Nigeria and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. After completing his undergraduate at Clemson University (Go tigers!), Sam moved to Atlanta for medical school at Morehouse School of Medicine. He was particularly drawn to UAB Internal Medicine by the collegial atmosphere and diverse patient population. Currently, he is interested in cardiology especially as it pertains to caring for the underserved community. During his free time, he enjoys playing soccer, hiking and cheering on his beloved Clemson Tigers!!
  • Will Morgan

    Will was born and raised in the suburbs of Jackson, Mississippi. He grew up cheering for his Dad's alma mater (some university in Tuscaloosa, AL), but is now a loyal Bulldog after attending Mississippi State University. After college, he moved back to Jackson to for medical school. Will chose UAB because of the excellent training in addition to a fun and positive program culture. He plans to pursue a career in either cardiology or general internal medicine, and wants to work in academics. He is looking forward to moving to Birmingham and utilizing the hiking trails in the surrounding area to combat his love for trying new restaurants and visiting breweries.
  • Hilary Flippo Ragsdale

    Hilary was born and raised in Birmingham, AL. She loves this city and its people, and is ever faithful, ever loyal to her UAB Blazers! She intends to practice traditional primary care and has a particular interest in women's and reproductive health in the primary care setting. Her career in medicine is inspired by her father, who is also an internist, UAB alum, and fierce UAB Blazers fan. In her free time, she loves all things fitness, playing with her fur children (Jack, Jill, and Fred), fishing, or trying out new restaurants with her husband, and entertaining her second passion: marine biology (especially sharks; Discovery's Shark Week is a full-on holiday at her house!).
  • Faraaz Salik

    Faraaz was born in London, raised in New York and has spent the last several years in central Illinois. He attended medical school at SIU in Springfield and is excited for a career in academic medicine. He intends to pursue the field of diagnostic radiology with a further specialization in IR. In the meantime, he is thrilled to begin his preliminary medicine year at UAB and to see all that Birmingham AL has to offer. In his free time, he enjoys spending time outdoors biking and running.
  • Lindsey C. Shipley

    Lindsey grew up in Jackson, TN and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville for college where she majored in Microbiology and met her husband, Adam. Between college and medical school, she worked as a research coordinator at UT Medical Center and Georgetown University. She ventured back to Tennessee to attend Quillen for medical school. After residency, she is interested in pursuing a career in Gastroenterology. In her free time you can find her spending time with family and friends, exercising in her home gym, or walking her Airedale Terriers, KC and Izzy. She is looking forward to joining the UAB Internal Medicine program, meeting her co-residents and exploring Birmingham.
  • Kathryn L. Sinquefield

    Kathryn grew up in a small community in Southwest Louisiana and spent some time outside of that area for medical school in New Orleans. She is excited to explore a new state and city. She was inspired by her two older cousins to become a physician and she is extremely blessed to be following in their footsteps in attending UAB Internal Medicine Residency. She plans to persue a career in general medicine, but also really enjoys infectious diseases. Kathryn enjoys playing basketball, running, and hiking with her husband.
  • Oliver K. Sinquefield

    Oliver grew up just outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He did not travel far immediately after high school, acquiring a biology degree at LSU and attending medical school at LSU New Orleans. These years gave him the chance to enjoy boiled crawfish, LSU football and incredibly humid summers. He is thrilled and thankful to be a part of the Internal Medicine program at UAB and to have the opportunity to live in Birmingham. He currently plans to pursue a career in general internal medicine. In his free time Oliver enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and playing sports, as well as practicing cooking with his wife Kathryn.
  • Taylor Smith

    Taylor was born in Louisiana and moved to Georgia at a young age with his family. There, he attended The Darlington School. After finishing his undergraduate degree in biology and business, he spent some time in Jackson Hole WY snow skiing and fly fishing with his older brother. He got his master's degree in pharmacology at Tulane, and subsequently went to LSU for medical school. After his intern year at UAB he will return to LSU to complete a dermatology residency. In his time off he enjoys golf, college football, going to the lake, brewing beer, and roasting his own coffee. Taylor is excited to move to Birmingham to start his residency, hopefully make it to a few football games, and get a pug who will be named Gumbo.
  • Jordan E. Tennenbaum

    Jordan was born and raised in the Toronto area, but most of his family was from Daytona Beach and other parts of Florida, so he headed south to the University of Miami for college. Appreciating the great weather (it's really cold in Canada), he stuck around for medical school at Florida Atlantic University. Now, he's thrilled to come to UAB and experience Birmingham's southern hospitality and fantastic barbecue. Jordan is most interested in pursuing a fellowship in cardiology at this time. When out of the hospital, he enjoys going on hikes with his dog, kayaking, and doing anything else outdoors.

    I grew up in Newnan, Georgia, and graduated from Newnan High School before heading to South Carolina for college. After four years at Wofford College I returned to Georgia for medical school. I spent a great four years in Athens at the AU/UGA Medical Partnership campus of the Medical College of Georgia. My wife, an Auburn grad, and I are both thrilled to spend the next few years of our lives in Birmingham. I'm planning to pursue a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology, but I’m also looking forward to exploring all internal medicine has to offer. In my free time you can find me in a local brewery, restaurant, or watching Braves baseball.

    ‘Twas brillig! Ankita grew up in Auburn, AL. Always interested in engineering and biology, he went to Georgia Tech for undergrad and then hopped across “The A” to Emory for medical school. During med school, he missed techie stuff and took a year to pursue computational epilepsy research at the NIH. Ankita’s excited for his preliminary year at UAB, where he hopes to gain a strong background in medicine before going into his neurology residency at UCLA. He ultimately wants to help advance neuroaugmentation technologies in medicine and society. In his free time, he’s watching Rick and Morty again, getting confused about how we store memories, and enjoying the magic of “The Magic City” with his girlfriend and family. And making terrible puns. And drinking coffee.
  • Mason Turner

    Mason was born in Macon, Georgia, but spent much of his formative years in Atlanta, moving there when he was 11 years old. He made his way up to South Carolina to obtain a bachelors degree in Political Science at Clemson University. He then moved down to Charleston working as an Emergency Department Technician before attending medical school at MUSC. He is excited to continue his tour of this most Southeastern corner of the country by making his way to Birmingham for residency. The support and companionship of his family, friends, and girlfriend have been a crucial inspiration to his life and career, and he spends most of his free time with them. He is excited to see where his excellent UAB training takes him.
  • Mariana Urquiaga

    Mariana was born and raised in Lima, Peru, where she also went to medical school. After graduating, she spent some time in Boston doing a research fellowship; and now she is thrilled to move to Birmingham and to get to know and love the south. Mariana is very proud to follow in the footsteps of fellow 'Cayetano' graduates who have trained at UAB. She hopes to pursue a career as a clinician investigator in Gastroenterology or Hepatology. In her free time, she enjoys running outdoors, reading fiction novels, and trying out new food.
  • Kendall Waddey

    Kendall was born and raised in Nashville, TN. She followed her father's footsteps and went to Auburn University for undergrad. After graduation, she returned to Tennessee for medical school in Memphis at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She is forever grateful for Memphis because that is where she adopted her dog, Blue, who is a flat coated retriever and chow chow mix. In her spare time, she practices yoga and pretends to be a sommelier. She is excited to be back in the state of Alabama again for her residency and can't wait to explore Birmingham with Blue.
  • Anne Wagstaff

    Anne grew up in Birmingham, AL. She attended Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, where she studied physics and met her husband, Drew. She then worked at a local clinic that provided primary care services to uninsured patients, which confirmed her desire to pursue medicine. She returned to Birmingham for medical school, and is excited to continue her training at UAB as a resident. In her free time, Anne likes to cook, hike, and explore Birmingham.
  • Alice Weaver

    Alice was born and raised in eastern Kentucky before moving down south for her undergraduate education at the University of Georgia. After earning an BS in Genetics, she joined the Medical Scientist Training (MD-PhD) Program at UAB, where she completed doctoral research in molecular cancer biology. She is excited to be staying in Birmingham as she continues to pursue a career as an academic physician scientist in medical oncology. Outside the hospital, she enjoys playing with her dog Brahm, traveling, and playing/watching sports.
  • Danielle Witt

    Danielle was born and raised in Saint Peters, MO. She completed her undergraduate education at Truman State University prior to moving to Kansas City, MO to attend medical school at University of Missouri-Kansas City. After completing a rotation at UAB at the advice of her mentor and experiencing the welcoming yet challenging nature of the program, she decided to migrate south and complete her medical residency at UAB. Danielle is considering a career in gastroenterology but knows that no matter what field she ends up in she wants medical education to be a part of her future. In her free time Danielle enjoys horseback riding, hiking (Yosemite and Zion are two favorites), and traveling.
  • David Wooten

    David was born in Stone Mountain, GA. He's happy he made the decision to return back to the south and train at one of the premier programs in the region. He plans to pursue a career in cardiology with goals of establishing a practice that places and importance on nutrition and exercise in combination with traditional therapy. In his free time he enjoys watching Atlanta Hawks & Falcons games, exercising, playing video games and finding new restaurants to try!
