  • Chaitanya Allamneni

Chaitanya was born in Huntsville, traveled to Nashville for college, and returned to Alabama for medical school at UAB. He is thrilled to continue his training at UAB, where the faculty and collegial environment are second to none. He credits his career in medicine to his father, a physician, and his two sisters, one of whom is an alumni of the Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Program (Sailaja). In his free time he enjoys tennis, cooking, traveling, and photography.

  • Muhannad Almubarak

Almubarak was born in Dammam in Saudi Arabia, he grew up in Aljouf City, which is a small town in the northern region of Saudi Arabia. He studied medicine at Arabian Gulf University in Bahrain where he obtained his MD. After graduating he did a 12 month internship in Salmaniya Medical Complex in Bahrain. In August 2015, he started his pre-residency training in Birmingham, AL. He is participated in cardiology research of which his main interest is myocardial infarction. He has begun his training in Internal Medicine. Patient safety, dignity and continuous medical education are important to him. He enjoys martial arts and horseback riding and is a great chef.

  • Kelly Anderson

Kelly was born and raised in Georgia but was coaxed to leave her great home state by the lure of a residency position with the fantastic internal medicine program at UAB. She plans to pursue a fellowship position in hematology/oncology and is very excited to learn more about this and all of the other sub-specialties of internal medicine in the coming years. In her free time you can find her lifting weights at the gym, cooking, or spending time with her wonderful boyfriend.

  • Page Axley

Page got her bachelor's degree from the University of Florida (Go Gators!) and went to medical school at the University of Central Florida. She met her husband, John, over a cadaver during the first year of medical school. After both doing away rotations at UAB during their 4th year and falling in love with the city and people of Birmingham, Page and John were thrilled to couples match at UAB in Internal Medicine and Vascular Surgery. Page plans to pursue a career in gastroenterology as it matches her passion for helping people work through their digestive complaints, love of procedures- especially endoscopy (but disdain for the OR), and fascination with the GI tract. Outside of medicine, Page enjoys spending time with her husband, trying new restaurants, cooking, attending concerts, trail running, and reading.

  • Brett Barlow

Brett Barlow grew up in Poplarville, MS, before moving to Clinton, MS, to attend Mississippi College. He went on to study medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. In May of 2016, Brett had a son, graduated from medical school, and moved to Alabama for residency all within the span of two weeks. In his free time he enjoys reading and spending time with his wife, Leslie, and son, Wilson. He has a particular interest in the field of Hematology/Oncology.

  • Rachel Bartsch

Rachel grew up in Florence, Kentucky before moving to where her parents met in Louisville. She pursued a Bachelor of Science in Cellular Physiology before continuing at Louisville for her medical degree. Rachel is excited to be doing her residency in Birmingham where she has been trying every barbecue place she can find, hiking at Red Mountain Park and enjoying the friendly collegial atmosphere at UAB. She is interested in academic medicine and is currently leaning towards Heme-Onc for post-residency, but she is still keeping an open mind.

  • Brent Berminham

Brent was born in Las Vegas, NV and spent his early years moving all over the world as the son of an Air Force officer. He thought he wanted to be a chemical engineer, but quickly thought better of it and went to med school! He plans to pursue a career in Pulmonology/Critical Care. On the occasional day off he enjoys running around Birmingham's many parks and spending time with his dog Sophie.

  • Brandon Bringuel

Brandon was born in a small suburb south of Atlanta. He attended UGA for undergrad and decided to stick around for another four years in Athens, Ga. for football tickets...I mean medical school. He is currently loving life in Birmingham with his wife and 7-month old boy. He plans to figure out which field of medicine he is called to over the next few years, but is starting to lean towards general internal medicine.

  • Emily Nations Bufkin

Emily is a born and raised Mississippian who always joked that Alabama was the part of the Mississippi territory we didn't want to keep. Now, she is eating her words, as she and her husband, Michael, are loving living in Birmingham. Her career interests include academic medicine and improving transitions of care. When not at work, she enjoys trying new restaurants, exercising, painting, and proudly supporting her Mississippi State Bulldogs in Roll Tide country.

  • Matt Burden

Matt Burden was born in Cullman, AL. He moved to Birmingham 9 years ago where he attended UAB for undergrad and met his wife Claire. He is interested in Pulmonary-Critical Care medicine but is keeping an open mind about other specialties. He has 2 dogs and enjoys running and hiking with them. He can be seen frequenting local breweries and music events.

  • Chad Colon

Chad was born in New Orleans but grew up in Birmingham. He went to undergraduate in Tuscaloosa but returned for medical school and residency. After realizing his interest in cardiac physiology, he plans to pursue a career as a clinician investigator in Cardiology. Since graduating medical school, Chad and his wife traveled to San Diego to adopt their first child, quickly to realize they would be welcoming another biological child in October. When he's not changing diapers or washing bottles, Chad enjoys grilling out, watching Alabama football, and spending time with family and friends.

  • Jordan H Crocker

Jordan was born in Birmingham and didn't go far for her undergraduate or medical education, but that is simply because she loves living in Alabama! Her passion for medicine came from listening to her grandmother's stories of her life as a practicing physician in South Africa. She still has weekly tea with her grandmother and now gets to share her own stories from medicine. She ultimately plans to pursue a career in Rheumatology. When she isn't at the hospital you can find her running around Birmingham- Jemison trail is her favorite. If she isn't running she is at the lake with her husband fishing, water skiing, or swimming.

  • Jared Davis

Jared was born and raised in Cottondale, FL. He received his Bachelor's degree in Nutrition from the University of Florida and he attended Florida State University for medical school. Jared was drawn to UAB for residency because of all the great people in the program and for the excellent clinical training. After residency, he plans to pursue a career in Cardiology. In his spare time, Jared enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, Samantha, and their dog, Luna.

  • Ali Dixon

Ali was born in Buffalo, but she moved to Ohio for college and medical school, where she met her fiancé. He is in anesthesiology, and they couples-matched at UAB! They are very excited to explore Birmingham and try every BBQ restaurant in town! Ali plans to go on to a fellowship and have an academic career, as one of her passions is teaching and working with students. In her spare time, she loves running (and is learning to embrace the hills and heat in Birmingham) and playing with her goldendoodle!

  • Zac Doegg

Zac was born in Rome, Georgia and travelled to Athens for undergrad at UGA. Once he got there, he decided to sit up camp and decided to stay there for medical school before coming to Birmingham for residency. On weekends he enjoys hiking, cheering for The Dawgs, and pairing a new beer with a medium-rare steak.

  • Diego Fernandez

Diego is from Little Rock, Arkansas. He went to Davidson College and returned to Arkansas for Medical School. He enjoys anything that involves the outdoors, especially hiking and fly fishing. He is looking forward to getting to enjoying all that Birmingham has to offer.

  • Josh Harpool

Josh was born and raised in Little Rock, AR and went to the historic Little Rock Central High School. He went to Fayetteville for undergrad (go hogs!) and decided to go back home for medical school. He is unsure about future plans in medicine because he loves it all. On the weekends you will find him at a concert or chilling at the pool. The best thing about Birmingham is the outdoor life and the food...and breweries.

  • Caitlin Hill

Caitlin was born in Texas and lived in Georgia until she was six. She spent the next two decades in Upstate New York where she attended both college and medical school. She is a former competitive figure skater and enjoyed skating in her very own backyard on a rink built by her dad! However, all those years spent in the cold led her to seek out a big change during residency and she was delighted to find the perfect fit in Birmingham. She plans to use her training in Med/Peds to fuse her interests in nutrition, genetics, and immunology. She balances her passion for nutrition with her love of cupcakes, and is always looking for a new recipe to try!

  • Neha Hingorani

Neha was raised in Montgomery, went to college in Mobile, and finished medical school at Birmingham, so she knows I-65 (and the best exits for food) better than your average Alabama resident. She loved the kind and hard-working atmosphere she found as a medical student at UAB so much she was thrilled when she found out she would spend her residency amongst some of the nicest, smartest, and most personable colleagues and faculty she's ever met. She's not quite sure on which subspecialty she'd like to pursue but is excited to find out where she belongs just like she did when she chose Internal Medicine. She enjoys eating at the countless new restaurants (and old!) in Birmingham, watching any movie in the theatre as long as there is popcorn involved, and hanging out with family and friends, especially her teenage sister, who always keeps her updated on what the "next generation" is up to these days!

  • Stephen Infanger

Stephen grew up in Victoria Texas and played soccer through high school. He graduated from Texas A&M as a biomedical engineer then went over to Houston for medical school. Now that he is at UAB for Internal Medicine residency, he is enjoying the local breweries and coffee when not too busy working at the hospital or sleeping. His favorite hobbies include eating, computer games, and going to dog parks with his dog and fiancé.

  • Jonathan Kalehoff

Jonathan grew up in sunny South Florida spending much of his time outdoors as well as being heavily involved in church choirs, English handbell choirs, and drama classes. After being homeschooled through high school, he moved way up north to the “South” for college in Jackson, MS where he became involved in outreach as the Community Outreach Coordinator for the school. He then moved back to his home state of Florida for medical school. Jonathan has been on several medical mission trips to Haiti and one to Bangladesh. He plans to specialize in Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine and head overseas to do long-term medical mission work in an ICU at a mission hospital. Jonathan is excited to be back in the South again and loves all of the outdoor hiking Birmingham provides.

  • Eric Kreps

Eric was born and raised in a small town outside of Louisville. In typical Kentucky fashion, he grew up around horses, and then went to the University of Kentucky for undergrad. Although he went to the rival medical school, he is a die-hard CATS fan at heart. He enjoys football season (however is used to losing seasons) and loves being in SEC country. He plans to pursue a career in either Pulmonary and Critical Care or Cardiology. Most of his free time is dedicated to either keeping his 317k mile BMW on the road, or furminating his dog, a Siberian.

  • Sarah Mayberry

I was born in Waco, Texas, lived on the coast of Alabama, Ft. Worth, Texas and then Carrollton, Georgia, but ended up in Birmingham to play golf at Samford University and just loved it here. My husband and I feel like Birmingham is home, and we are really happy and thankful to be back in this wonderful vibrant city! I am planning to do primary care Med-Peds, which is why I was so drawn to UAB as it is incredible on both sides. I love to travel and experience different cultures and plan to do medical missions, thus I am so excited to get involved in the global health track here at UAB! In our free time, my husband and I love to travel, run with our sweet puppy, go to small concerts, eat at local restaurants, paddle board, anything in the great outdoors that Birmingham has to offer!

  • Nicholas McQueen

Nicholas was raised in Enterprise, Alabama in a family of three brothers. He is the oldest of the brothers by a full 7 minutes (twin brother Alex is doing Family medicine). He attended the University of Alabama for his undergraduate degree and the University of Alabama School of Medicine (UAB) for med school. His time outside of the hospital is spent either at church, running the fine trails of Birmingham, or reading. He is unsure which direction of the many within internal medicine he will take.

  • Neal Miller

Neal grew up in St. Petersburg, FL, becoming an avid fisherman and a fan of the major Tampa Bay sports teams (Rays, Bucs, Lightning). He went to Duke for undergrad where he became a diehard Duke basketball fan. He then attended Wake Forest School of Medicine where he met his girlfriend, Vanessa DiPasquale, who is now in the general surgery program at UAB. In his free time Neal enjoys hiking, fishing, running, and learning to cook.

  • Eduardo Mulanovich

Eduardo was born in Lima, Peru and has lived in Detroit, Birmingham, South Florida, and Peru again before settling in Houston for the past eleven years. He moved to Birmingham to join the awesome UAB Internal Medicine residency program and eat great food. He plans on pursuing a career in Academic Internal Medicine due to his love for teaching and learning. In whatever time he may have free, he enjoys learning about random subjects, testing this vast trivial knowledge at pub quizzes, collecting and listening to vinyl records, and witty humor.

  • Lauren Pacheco

Lauren is a proud native of the Natural State and was born and raised in Little Rock. She attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where she studied biology and psychology. She moved back to Little Rock for medical school where she met her future husband Zach who is going into emergency medicine. They couples matched and are ecstatic to be in the Ham for residency training! In her free time, Lauren enjoys exploring local parks with her husband and their fur babies, going to the lake, all things chocolate, and drinking wine. Woo Pig Sooie!

  • Christopher Pallas

Chris grew up in Wyomissing, PA before attending college at Mercer University in Macon, GA. Go Bears! He went to medical school in Scranton, PA (home of the TV show The Office). Chris was drawn to medicine at a young age, as he watched his father practice medicine as a cardiologist. He is eager to use what he has learned to help those in need. In his free time Chris enjoys playing basketball and watching sports. You might also find him on one of the many hiking trails in Birmingham or catching a Barons game.

  • John Russell Penick

John Russell grew up in small town Mississippi and attended Ole Miss in Oxford, where he met his wife Bethany. He was drawn to UAB because he sensed a very supportive environment from day one. Even though he is new to the city, he already can't get enough of the great food options in Birmingham. He is currently unsure of his future plans in medicine, but hopes to discover his niche during intern year. In his spare time he enjoys going out to eat, traveling, doing anything outdoors, and cheering on the Ole Miss Rebels.

  • Shane Reighard

Shane was born in Columbia, SC, and he grew up in the Upstate of South Carolina. He earned a BS in Genetics from Clemson University. After undergraduate, he spent 2 years researching plant genetics in a PhD program however he decided to pursue Medicine after realizing he enjoyed working with patients. He was a member of USCSOM-Greenville's charter class. Shane has enjoyed living in Birmingham, and working with the fantastic faculty, staff and residents at UAB.

  • John Romano

John was raised in Upstate New York. After graduating from undergrad, he spent several years as a high school teacher in the New York City Public School System. John spent his first two years of medical school in Brisbane, Australia at the University of Queensland. After numerous seventeen hour flights he relocated to New Orleans, where he completed his clinical rotations at the Ochsner Clinical School. John is extremely happy to have matched at UAB. He is looking forward to the excellent clinical education, diverse patient population and endless research opportunities that lie ahead. He is also excited for a fifth consecutive winter with no snow and his first fall with the NFL Sunday Ticket in his own home.

  • Gaurav Shah

Gaurav was born in India but was raised and went to college in Shreveport, Louisiana. Shreveport was a great place to grow up, but he decided to travel to New Orleans for medical school to change things up. He chose Birmingham because of the family-like and collegial atmosphere among the residents. While he’s trying to keep an open mind, Gaurav is interested in Heme/Onc or a hospitalist position after residency. Since he grew up in bayou country and is not used to the hills and forests of Birmingham, Gaurav wants to explore some of the natural areas in and around the city and to try some of the good food in Birmingham.

  • Ryan Sheets

Ryan Sheets graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia with a B.A. in International Affairs. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. As he begins his Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency, his current long-term goal is to provide continuity care for children and adults with chronic pediatric diseases. When you see him next, ask him about UGA and Atlanta sports, his favorite Birmingham karaoke spots, and/or the next good concert in town.

  • Laura Stanko

Laura is from Centreville, VA and graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. She served our country for five years as a Deck Watch Officer on a polar icebreaker and as a marine inspector in New England. After discharge, Laura attended Marshall University's Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and was honored to be accepted into the UAB Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Program. Laura has been a strong advocate for veteran’s health care and plans on pursuing the Women's Health Track, which in the future will allow her to participate in the VA Women's Primary care clinic. In her spare time, Laura is an avid baseball and gymnastics enthusiast.

  • Stephen Stuart

Stephen was born in New Orleans, Louisiana before moving to Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he grew up. He quickly saw the light and grew up an avid Auburn fan living in enemy territory. He fulfilled his destiny and became an Auburn tiger for college and then went on to UAB for medical school. Stephen and his wife Mary Katherine have loved life in Birmingham and wouldn't mind practicing medicine and pharmacy in the local area. They love hiking, outdoor sports, running, and of course college football.

  • Elena Stuewe

After spending her undergraduate and medical school years in Illinois, Elena is excited to finally leave her home state to join the awesome residency team here at UAB (and she’s pretty excited about the warm weather, too!). Her academic interests include Infectious Diseases, Hematology/Oncology, and working with underserved patients. In her spare time, you can find her going to pub trivia nights, enjoying Birmingham’s delicious barbecue, and hiking with her two rambunctious rescue dogs.

  • Stefanie Vamenta

Stefanie was born in the Philippines and moved to the US at age 7. She attended both college and medical school in Mississippi but is excited to explore the Birmingham area. Some of her hobbies include cooking, tennis, and outdoor activities. Although her future career plans are uncertain, she has an interest in endocrinology and is looking forward to the many opportunities UAB has to offer.

  • Ashley Vorenkamp

I was born in south Louisiana and continued my Louisiana journey for both college (LA Tech University) and medical school (LSU-Shreveport). I was finally ready to leave the great state of Louisiana for residency at UAB. My plan is to pursue a career in academic medicine as a hospitalist. Birmingham is a big “foodie” town so I’m loving my new adventures of trying all kinds of restaurants. My favorite hobby is cooking so watching The Food Network is what you will find me doing with some time off.

  • Gustave Weiland

Gustave was born in Campo Largo, Brazil, but spent most of his early years throughout Maryland – from Annapolis to finally calling Ocean City home. He studied molecular biology at Salisbury University before moving to Baltimore (Go O’s!). While in Baltimore, he conducted medical research while also teaching science in the public school system. All of this led him to medical school at the Medical College of Virginia. After being charmed by southern living in Richmond, he wanted more of that southern hospitality – and could not be happier to train at UAB. If not in the hospital, you can find him traveling the south with his culinary companion and wife, Kara, walking his labradoodle around town, or exploring the local music scene.

  • Cameron White

Cameron grew up in Tupelo, MS, and went to undergrad at Emory University in Atlanta. After graduation she took a year off to serve as an AmeriCorps volunteer in Nashville. She then moved to New Orleans for medical school and completed a combined MD/MPH program in addition to going to plenty of festivals and eating as much delicious food as possible. She is undecided on her future career plans but is interested in hospitalist medicine. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, gardening, and trying new breweries and restaurants around town.
