22 UAB Department of Surgery faculty were named best doctors within multiple categories on the Best Doctors in Alabama list.
Best Doctors was founded in 1989 by Harvard Medical School physicians, and it utilizes a polling method and proprietary balloting software that allows doctors to recognize other doctors as the best in their fields. Best Doctors mimics a peer-to-peer process that doctors use when locating the right specialist for their own patient.
The categories that UAB Department of Surgery faculty were named best in included: pediatric surgery, pediatric thoracic surgery, plastic surgery, surgery, surgical oncology, thoracic surgery and vascular surgery.
UAB Department of Surgery Chair Herbert Chen, M.D., FACS, is pleased that 22 faculty from the department have been named, including him.
“I’m proud that our department represented well on the list of Best Doctors in Alabama,” said Chen. “I believe that we have some of the best faculty around, and this is a great commendation of their knowledge, capability and care for patients.”
