Clinical Trials Unit
The Clinical Trials Unit, led by Dr. Jan Jansen, designs, coordinates and executes clinical trials of complex interventions, such as surgical procedures and medical devices. These trials present special problems for evaluators, which include small eligible populations, difficulties in standardizing the delivery of the interventions and sensitivity to local context.
MHRC
The UAB Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center (MHRC) generates and disseminates research knowledge from biomedical, behavioral, and social sciences in order to reduce the health disparities experienced by vulnerable populations and disadvantaged communities locally, regionally, and nationally.
CINEMA
The Center for Inter-systemic Networks and Enteric Medical Advances is a collaborative research unit that brings laboratories across UAB together. The center has many research missions but its common goal is to understand the cellular mechanisms and circuitries involved in enteric inter-systemic disorders (ESD) and how disruption of the gut-brain-axis underlies ESD. The center is designed to encourage and facilitate research on enteric research and the central manifestations associated with ESD, including mental illness (i.e. addiction), disruptions in feeding behavior and obesity.
SRS
The Department of Surgery's Research SRS – short for Surgery Research Seminar – is an academic collaboration meeting of the Department of Surgery's basic science researchers. The series is a platform for investigators and student-investigators to present their work, one time a year, to colleagues for the purpose of collaboration and as part of our research training programs.
