The UAB Marketing and Public Relations offices of media relations, marketing and publications won several awards in the recent Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District III competition.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The UAB Marketing and Public Relations offices of media relations, marketing and publications won several awards in the recent Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District III competition. District III includes all colleges and universities in the Southeast.

The Office of Media Relations, under the direction of Gary Mans, won the Grand Award for best overall media relations program in the Southeast.

The Creative and Marketing Group, under the direction of Ross Mitchell, won the Grand Award for print advertisement with its UAB basketball campaign. The group also won an Award of Excellence in the television category for last season’s UAB football ad campaign.

The Publications and Periodicals Group, under the direction of editor Pam Powell, won three Awards of Excellence. Venture Magazine, the UAB School of Business magazine, won an Award of Excellence for Alumni Magazines. The UAB School of Public Health Newsletter and Vision, the UAB Department of Ophthalmology newsletter, each won an Award of Excellence for External Newsletters.

CASE is the national association of college and university public relations, advancement and alumni affairs professionals. Its membership includes more than 3,000 colleges, universities and independent elementary and secondary schools in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and 42 other countries.

The UAB Office of Public Relations and Marketing is led by Associate Vice President Dale Turnbough. It reports to Vice President for Development, Alumni and External Relations Shirley Salloway Kahn, Ph.D.
