BIRMINGHAM, AL — A Huntsville physician is one of 20 scholars selected for a national program on women’s health education. David E. Green, M.D., was recently inducted into the 2002-2003 class of scholars selected by the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics for the APGO/Solvay Pharmaceuticals Educational Scholars Development Program. Green is director and associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Huntsville.

The program is designed to help obstetricians and gynecologists become educational leaders in the field of women’s health. It aims to help physicians develop skills and knowledge needed to become educational administrators. Over the course of 15 months, Green will pursue a vigorous course of study including curriculum and instruction, measurement and evaluation, research and statistics and leadership and management.

Green was selected from a competitive group of applicants based on professional credentials and a demonstrated commitment to women’s health education.

Green is a 1972 graduate of Lee High School in Huntsville. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1975 and his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1980. In 1984, he completed his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colo.

He has been with the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Huntsville campus, since 1988 and became director of the obstetrics and gynecology department in 1997.
