A University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Mock Trial Team co-captain, Cory Ricci, of Madison, was named “Best Attorney” at the Regional American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) competition held Feb. 28 at Samford University. UAB team members Courtney Leonard, of Slidell, La., and Katherine Hall, of Huntsville, both received “Best Witness” honors during the tournament.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Mock Trial Team co-captain, Cory Ricci, of Madison, was named "Best Attorney" at the Regional American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) competition held Feb. 28 at Samford University. UAB team members Courtney Leonard, of Slidell, La., and Katherine Hall, of Huntsville, both received "Best Witness" honors during the tournament.

The UAB Mock Trial Team's Green Squad captured third place at the regional competition. UAB's Gold Squad tied Miles College for eighth place.

Both squads qualified to compete at the Open Round Championship at Furman University in Greenville S.C., March 26-28. If one or both squads progress at the AMTA Open Round Championship, they will qualify to compete in the final round at the AMTA National Championship at Rhodes College in Memphis April 16-18.

The Green Squad co-team captains are Ricci and Grady Lowman of Huntsville. Green Squad members are Hall, Blythe Sabine of Montgomery, James Davis of Decatur, Shaun Styers of Alabaster, Paul Rogers of San Pedro, Calif., and Kayla Sellers, Samantha Levitt and Jon Thompson of Birmingham.

The Gold Squad co-team captains are Elizabeth Brown of Tuscaloosa and Jacob Dawes of Huntsville. Gold Squad members are Leonard, Kimberly Everett of Semmes, Chris Dukes of Fort Payne, Channing Brashaw [cq] of Andalusia, Ja'Taune Bosby of Chicago, Mfiti [cq] Young of Birmingham, Ashley Powell of Quinton and Andrew Krebs of Cincinnati.

The UAB Mock Trial Team is housed in the UAB Department of Justice Sciences.
