Dawson appointed to ANA Workgroup

Martha A. Dawson, DNP, CNS, FACHE, assistant professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing and coordinator of the Nursing and Health Systems Administration master's program, has been appointed to the 2013-2014 American Nurse Association Nursing Administration Scope and Standards Revision Workgroup. The workgroup will engage in an intensive 9-12 month effort to review and revise the 2009 Nursing Administration Scope and Standards publication.

During the review the team will address key aspects of nursing administration, including specialty and practice occurring at all organization levels, different roles and in diverse settings. They will accomplish this by focusing on health care trends and challenges that are influencing future competencies and educational requirements for effective nurse leaders and managers.

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is the only full-service professional organization representing the interests of the nation's 3.1 million registered nurses through its constituent and state nurses associations and its organizational affiliates. The ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the rights of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and by lobbying the Congress and regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public.
