Sharpe is named first recipient of AVA Janet Pettit Scholar Award

liz sharpeElizabeth Sharpe, DNP, ARNP, NNP-BC, VA-BC, Assistant Professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing has been given the Janet Pettit Scholar Award by the Association for Vascular Access (AVA).

The association is honoring Sharpe's outstanding contributions to the art and science of neonatal and pediatric vascular access.

The award's namesake, Janet Pettit, worked as a clinical nurse, manager, outreach educator, clinical nurse specialist and nurse practitioner in the neonatal intensive care for over 30 years. She led the move to establish evidence-based educational programs that improve the care and outcomes for all patient populations.

Sharpe is recognized for possessing the same passion and quest for knowledge as Pettit. Sharpe's is dedicated to continued education, research and publication, teaching and mentoring, and continued education, research and publication, teaching and mentoring. She is also recognized for her continued involvement in AVA, the Pediatric Special Interest Group (PSIG) and the National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN).

Sharpe earned her bachelor of science in nursing at Florida Atlantic University, bachelor of science in health records administration from Temple University, master's in nursing from Vanderbilt University, and her doctor of nursing practice from Northeastern University.
