BSN program ranked number 9 in the nation

The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program remains a top nursing program in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report. The leader in college and graduate school rankings released its 2023 “Best Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programs” list, placing the UAB School of Nursing at No. 9 out of hundreds of programs. The School climbed one spot from last year’s rank.

“Everything we do, we continue to grow and improve,” said Dean and Professor Maria R. Shirey, PhD, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, ANEF, FNAP, FACHE, FAAN. “This is a well-deserved recognition for our students, faculty and staff whose efforts are making an impact in preparing the next generation of diverse nurse leaders.”

U.S. News ranks programs through a combination of factors, including accreditation, peer institutions and more. The School’s graduate programs have been highly ranked by U.S. News as well, with seven top ranked graduate programs for 2023.

“The UAB School of Nursing continues to build upon its stellar reputation for its quality education,” said Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Undergraduate and Prelicensure Education Gwendolyn Childs, PhD, RN, FAAN. “We started in the top 10 last year during the first BSN rankings, and our goal is to continue to progress into the top five.”

From simulation and curriculum to clinical partnerships, the UAB School of Nursing presents students with unique, hands-on opportunities at a premier academic health science center for real-world clinical experiences that drive home what they learn in the classroom setting.
