Alumna Katherine Pearson receives SINI Sharon Coleman Memorial Award

TN8 0222University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing alumna Katherine Taylor Pearson, DNP, RN-BC, MA, CPHIMS, was recently awarded the Sharon Coleman Memorial Award for contributions to the science of nursing and informatics on behalf of the Summer Institute in Nursing Informatics (SINI).

Pearson was selected for this award based on her research project with mentor Jacqueline Moss, PhD, RN, FAAN, Professor in the UAB School of Nursing entitled "Evaluating User Satisfaction and Usability of Secure Messaging for Pediatric Providers." Pearson presented their research at the 25th Annual Summer Institute of Informatics at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Md.

Pearson was also invited to present a poster presentation on pediatric considerations for design with personal health portals at the TRISERVICE Nursing Research Conference in San Antonio, Texas.

Pearson attributes much of her success to her advisor Moss, who has played an integral role in helping her find this path. Pearson earned her doctor of nursing practice (DNP) degree from the UAB School of Nursing in 2015.
