PhD student receives oncology scholarship

Rebecca Edwards, also a faculty member, will use funds from Oncology Nursing Society to begin crafting research proposal on palliative care in the Caribbean

University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing PhD student and Assistant Professor Rebecca Edwards, DNP, RN, AOCNP, ACNP-BC, has been awarded an Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Foundation Research Doctoral Scholarship to fund her doctoral research as part of the UAB School of Nursing’s Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing program.

Edwards will receive $5,000 for the 2018-2019 academic year and plans to use her scholarship proceeds to participate in a four-week research immersion experience in Jamaica where she will begin networking, collaborating and formulating her research proposal, as well as drafting a manuscript for publication.

“Receiving the ONS Foundation Research Doctoral Scholarship has provided me the necessary funding to begin my research on expanding palliative care in Jamaica and other Caribbean countries through global partnerships,” she said.

Edwards joined the UAB School of Nursing as an Assistant Professor in 2014.
