University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing part-time PhD student Courtney Sullivan, MSN, is a 2018 recipient of the American Cancer Society Doctoral Degree Scholarship in Cancer Nursing.

A competitive two-year training grant, this funding will support Sullivan’s tuition and dissertation research, which is focused on developing a set of global nursing-sensitive indicators for pediatric oncology nursing.

In addition to being a part-time UAB School of Nursing PhD student, Sullivan leads the Global Nursing Program at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. She supports nurses through education and quality program development to enhance pediatric oncology nursing service delivery in resource-limited countries and hospitals.

In the PhD program, Sullivan is mentored by Wendy Landier, PhD, RN, whose research is also focused on pediatric oncology nursing.

Sullivan chairs the Global Outreach Committee of the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) and co-led the piloting of the APHON Chemotherapy/Biotherapy course in Latin America.  She is also actively involved in the International Society of Pediatric Oncology where she serves on the Baseline Nursing Standards Taskforce.
