Alumnae Edwina Taylor (BSN 1970, MSN 1999), and Karen Hammond (BSN 1983, MSN 1989, DNP 2009), are among Positive Maturity’s Top 50 Over 50. Created in 2014, Top 50 Over 50 is an annual list recognizing individuals 50 and older for their success and/or lifetime achievements in their businesses, civic engagement and personal lives.

Taylor was a registered nurse for 28 years in hematology-oncology at UAB Medicine before becoming the founder and former executive director of Cahaba Valley Health Care. There, she formed a board of directors, recruited volunteers, secured equipment and organized vison and dental care for underserved communities.

Hammond is a board-certified nurse practitioner and co-owner and director of Innovative Fertility Specialists. In 2018, Dr. Hammond created a one-of-a-kind, affordable IVF program to increase access to care for patients needing advanced fertility treatment. Because of this, she is lovingly referred to across the nation by her patients as their “Fertility Fairy Godmother.”
