The Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic (AVRC) at UAB is seeking healthy adults ages 18 to 65 to take part in a national HIV prevention study. This Phase 2 clinical trial is testing the safety and potential benefits of three investigational monoclonal antibodies—lab-made proteins that may help the body block HIV. These antibodies are given by IV infusion, not as a shot or vaccine, and participants are never exposed to HIV. Those who qualify will receive two infusions over six months, followed by routine clinic visits for up to one year. Participants will receive compensation for their time and effort. Learn more about a clinical trial examining a potential new treatment for depression in adult patients. Managing symptoms of depression can feel overwhelming, but you are not alone. If you experience symptoms such as sadness, diminished interest or pleasure in things that you once enjoyed, appetite changes, sleep changes, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, or thoughts of suicide or harming yourself, you may qualify for a clinical trial examining a new treatment option for depression. The Vitalize Clinical Study is evaluating a new type of investigational treatment for patients with depression that works differently than traditional antidepressants. The study will include a total of 9 visits with the study doctor, over a period of 14 weeks. If you are qualified to participate, you will receive either the study drug, or placebo, as an oral tablet administered one time per week in the study clinic. As a study participant, you will also receive once-weekly evaluations of your depression and other symptoms, physical examinations and tests of your blood, urine, heart, and brain activity at no cost. This study may be an option for you if you: are a healthy adult aged 18-64 with no other major illnesses have a diagnosis of depression are currently experiencing a major depressive episode that has lasted at least 3 weeks but no longer than 18 months are interested in trying a new treatment option, administered as an oral tablet once per week are interested in receiving thorough evaluations of your depression and health monitoring during your participation in the study are interested in contributing to the growing body of research about depression and new treatment options. Continuing to experience the effects of depression? You could participate in a research study for adults who have depression. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the safety, efficacy, and maintenance of effect of an investigational medication in people with depression. You may be eligible to participate if you: are 18-74 years of age have been diagnosed with depression have taken antidepressants in the past that did not work well for you are currently taking an antidepressant medication but still have symptoms of depression If you are interested, additional eligibility criteria will be assessed by the study doctor or staff. The study consists of Part 1 and Part 2. In Part 1, you will received the investigational medication or placebo (contains no active medication) for 6 weeks. If you complete Part 1, you will have the option to participate in Part 2. In Part 2, you could receive the investigational medication for up to 16 weeks or more. Qualified patients may receive study-required medical care and investigational study medication at no cost. The study will not pay for other medical care or current medication(s) needed to support your daily health care routine. We are currently looking for adults between the ages of 18-60 who are depressed and experienced a happy childhood. Help us find out by joining our study. The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Division of General Internal Medicine and Population Science is conducting an exciting research study to see if changing the time you eat can help with weight loss after having a baby. If you participate, you will either keep your normal eating schedule or change to a shortened daily eating window. If you are randomly chosen to do shortened daily eating window, you will fast for 15 hours per day and eat dinner by 6 pm about 6 days per week (1 break day per week). You may qualify if: You had a baby in the last 3 months Your BMI is 25 or more- find your BMI at this link You are not currently taking any medications for chronic conditions You don’t smoke, vape, or use tobacco products currently or within the last 6 months The study involves coming to UAB for 2 study visits spaced about 12 weeks apart. You will be asked to complete surveys, blood draws, body fat scans, and other simple tests. Compensation of up to $130 is offered for the completion of this study. Participants between the ages of 35 and 65 are needed for this study. The purpose of the study is to fill in what we don’t know about how schizophrenia affects people as they get older. We want to find out what we can do to help older individuals with schizophrenia live better lives. The study includes 4 visits over the course of two weeks. The screening visit will take 2 hours. The first study visit will take 3 hours. The second study visit will take 2 hours. The third study visit will take 9 hours. This study will include: a clinical interview, cognitive batteries, questionnaires and assessments related to your daily and psychiatric functioning, two 90 minute MRI scans of your brain, a fasting blood draw, and a urine drug screen and pregnancy test (for females). Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, or feel that your quality of life has suffered due to your HIV diagnosis? Researchers in the Department of Psychology at The University of Alabama at Birmingham are conducting a clinical trial of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for the treatment of mental health concerns among men who have sex with men and are living with HIV. Volunteers will attend 8 weekly roughly 1 hour sessions of psychotherapy delivered via HIPAA-compliant Zoom by a doctoral student in Medical/Clinical Psychology at University of Alabama at Birmingham. Participants will receive $10 upon completion of initial intake session and an additional $15 upon completion of final therapy session. Participate in the PRECISION-BP research study investigating the best time to take blood pressure medication, morning or evening. This study participants will receive blood pressure medications for 28 days. Eligible participants must be obese (BMI: 30-45 kg/m2) men and women, have high blood pressure, and have no history of heart or kidney problems. The study involves wearing a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours, 24-hour inpatient visits at UAB Hospital, taking medications, and collecting blood and urine samples. Meals will be provided at no cost. Participants will be compensated $575 for completing the study visits. We are conducting a research study at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) to adapt a virtual Mindfulness-Based Therapy for Insomnia program for individuals with Down syndrome. This study aims to improve sleep and overall quality of life. What’s Involved? 8 weekly intervention sessions (1 hour via Zoom) Wearing a Fitbit to track sleep patterns (Fitbit provided) Completing online sleep and quality of life surveys Participating in a focus group at the end of the study Who Can Participate? Individuals aged 12 to 30 years old with a diagnosis of Down syndrome who experience sleep difficulties. If you have the JAK2 V617F mutation, are aged 18-74 years old, do not smoke, do not have any known autoimmune disease, and attend medical checks at UAB regularly, you may be eligible for our study! This study focuses on better understanding how diet influences quality of life in MPN patients. We will test whether an anti-inflammatory food regime can help alleviate symptoms and decelerate disease progression. Participants will meet with study staff to collect non-invasive samples, undergo anthropometric and metabolic measurements, and answer study related questionnaires. Samples to be collected include blood and stool samples. Participants will be compensated $50 for each visit and providing samples if simply continuing their regular food intake, or $90 each month if trying an anti-inflammatory food regime for 3 months and completing the study visits and providing samples. Participants who adhere to an anti-inflammatory regime and would like to continue a further 9 months may be eligible to continue participating with a compensation of $90 per month. Study participants in all groups would receive information related to body inflammation, vitamin D levels, and metabolism if desired. Total maximum compensation of $150, $270 and $810 depending on study group. The study involves consuming prepared meals, performing exercise on a treadmill, undergoing a glucose test, and collecting blood, urine samples, and collection of genetic information. Interested in being part of vision rehabilitation research for healthy older adults aged 50-59 to lay the foundation of using a new device? Here is an overview of what our study will involve! The purpose of this study? Calculate baseline data for Bioness Integrated Therapy System (BITS) and identify its clinical implications in treating visual impairments. Compare the baseline data of Bioness Integrated Therapy System (BITS) to Dynavision for visual scanning. Who are we looking for? Healthy adults aged 50-59 without physical, visual, or cognitive impairment and with no history of seizures or balance problems. Adults who are able to walk without assistive devices and are English speakers. What would you have to do in 60 minutes? Fill out a short survey for demographic data. Quick functional screening of upper extremities. Perform four tests on BITS. Perform four tests on Dynavision. Participants will receive a $25 gift card.
