We are currently recruiting participants aged 18-30 with normal or corrected to normal vision and participants aged 18-89 with Macular Degeneration/Stargardt's Disease for a clinical research study that aims to understand how individuals learn to use their peripheral vision following the loss of central vision. This study is being conducted in the Civitan International Research Center and involves a total of 27 in-person visits over the course of 1.5 to 3 months. There are 2 MRI visits (1 at the beginning of the study and one at the end), 5 assessment visits (3 baseline assessments and 2 post assessments), and a total of 20 training sessions (in between the baselines and the post assessments). Compensation for full participation in this study is $350.This is a great opportunity for all to gain experience participating in a clinical research study. Participants between the ages of 35 and 65 are needed for this study. The purpose of the study is to fill in what we don’t know about how schizophrenia affects people as they get older. We want to find out what we can do to help older individuals with schizophrenia live better lives. The study includes 4 visits over the course of two weeks. The screening visit will take 2 hours. The first study visit will take 3 hours. The second study visit will take 2 hours. The third study visit will take 9 hours. This study will include: a clinical interview, cognitive batteries, questionnaires and assessments related to your daily and psychiatric functioning, two 90 minute MRI scans of your brain, a fasting blood draw, and a urine drug screen and pregnancy test (for females). Our study is looking for physically active and inactive postmenopausal women of Black or White race. We are testing the impact of race, exercise habits, and living conditions on heart disease risk in postmenopausal women. Participation only involves two, one-hour long visits to the UAB Center for Exercise Medicine and offers compensation up to $200. 426c.Mod.Core-C4b adjuvanted with 3M-052-AF + Alum immunization in combination with an antiretroviral analytical treatment interruption (ATI) in people living with HIV for elicitation of VRC01-lineage antibodies Study Information: Are you 18-60 years of age living with HIV, and want to be a part of a vaccine study? Is your viral load suppressed/undetectable? Are you able to receive a vaccine? Are you generally healthy? Are you willing to temporarily stop taking antiretrovirals? You may qualify for a study looking at testing an experimental HIV vaccine with an experimental adjuvant to see how the immune responses change among participants who do an antiretroviral analytical treatment interruption (ATI) compared to those who do not. Participate in the PRECISION-BP research study investigating the best time to take blood pressure medication, morning or evening. This study participants will receive blood pressure medications for 28 days. Eligible participants must be obese (BMI: 30-45 kg/m2) men and women, have high blood pressure, and have no history of heart or kidney problems. The study involves wearing a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours, 24-hour inpatient visits at UAB Hospital, taking medications, and collecting blood and urine samples. Major Depressive Disorder is a mental health condition characterized by periods of low mood, low self-esteem, and loss of interest or pleasure in normally enjoyable activities. The purpose of this clinical research study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an investigational drug for Major Depressive Disorder, also known as Major Depression. Study participation may include several clinic visits over a period of up to 5 months with an opportunity to conduct some visits either virtually or in-clinic. Researchers from the UAB School of Optometry are currently recruiting those with dry eyes to participate in a research study looking at how a part of your eye's immune system called the complement system is involved in dry eye disease. If eligible, you will be asked to have your eyes evaluated three times, each visit being 3 to 17 days apart. Visit will last between 30 to 90 minutes. You will receive $150 if you are eligible for the study and complete all study procedures. University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking cigarette smokers who would like to quit smoking for participation in a scientific research study. The research study involves free counseling and treatment provided in a comfortable, supportive setting. The study may involve ingestion of psilocybin, a psychoactive substance found in psychedelic mushrooms that have been used as a sacrament in various cultures. Some research studies have suggested that psychedelics, when administered under interpersonally supportive and well-prepared conditions, may be effective in helping people overcome addictions. Questionnaires, interviews, and biological measures of smoking will be used to assess the treatment's effects on mood and smoking. Participants will be compensated $50 per session. There is an ongoing psychedelic clinical research study evaluating the safety and efficacy of an intranasal study drug for patients with treatment resistant depression. To qualify patients need to be 18-75 years of age, failed to respond to an adequate dose & duration of at least 2 medicines for depression. If currently taking antidepressants, willing and able to discontinue. If eligible, study participants will be expected to abstain from illicit drugs for the duration of the trial & attend all study visits & follow instructions from the study doctor. The SAVITRI Study is researching a potential MDD therapy to improve symptoms of depression, and you may be able to participate. This research study is now enrolling adults diagnosed with MDD.
