Babies typically receive four doses of the pneumococcal vaccine at 2, 4, 6, and about 12 months of age to help protect against infections such as ear infections, sinus infections, pneumonia, bacteremia (blood infection), and meningitis. The UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences is conducting a nutrition and brain health study looking at whether an acute dose of a ketone supplement can improve cognitive function in individuals 60 and older. You may qualify if you are between the ages of 60-75 years, are healthy or have prediabetes, have NOT been diagnosed with Diabetes, are willing to consume a ketone supplement drink, and are willing to travel to UAB for 2 testing visits that include a PET-fMRI brain scan. The Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic (AVRC) at UAB is seeking healthy adults ages 18 to 65 to take part in a national HIV prevention study. This Phase 2 clinical trial is testing the safety and potential benefits of three investigational monoclonal antibodies—lab-made proteins that may help the body block HIV. These antibodies are given by IV infusion, not as a shot or vaccine, and participants are never exposed to HIV. Those who qualify will receive two infusions over six months, followed by routine clinic visits for up to one year. Participants will receive compensation for their time and effort. The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Division of General Internal Medicine and Population Science is conducting an exciting research study to see if changing the time you eat can help with weight loss after having a baby. If you participate, you will either keep your normal eating schedule or change to a shortened daily eating window. If you are randomly chosen to do shortened daily eating window, you will fast for 15 hours per day and eat dinner by 6 pm about 6 days per week (1 break day per week). Participants between the ages of 35 and 65 are needed for this study. The purpose of the study is to fill in what we don’t know about how schizophrenia affects people as they get older. We want to find out what we can do to help older individuals with schizophrenia live better lives. The study includes 4 visits over the course of two weeks. The screening visit will take 2 hours. The first study visit will take 3 hours. The second study visit will take 2 hours. The third study visit will take 9 hours. Join us at the Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic at UAB! We are seeking participants who were assigned male at birth, are 18 years or older, are not living with HIV, have had receptive anal intercourse (RAI) and regularly douche before intercourse. Participants must not have taken oral or injectable PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) for 8 weeks prior to screening. Our clinical trial will help in the development of an on-demand PrEP in the form of a rectal douche. Your involvement will include simple procedures such as medical and sexual history collection, blood and urine sample testing, a physical exam, and receiving PrEP products in the form of an oral pill and a douche.
