We are currently recruiting participants aged 18-30 with normal or corrected to normal vision and participants aged 18-89 with Macular Degeneration/Stargardt's Disease for a clinical research study that aims to understand how individuals learn to use their peripheral vision following the loss of central vision. This study is being conducted in the Civitan International Research Center and involves a total of 27 in-person visits over the course of 1.5 to 3 months. There are 2 MRI visits (1 at the beginning of the study and one at the end), 5 assessment visits (3 baseline assessments and 2 post assessments), and a total of 20 training sessions (in between the baselines and the post assessments). Compensation for full participation in this study is $350.This is a great opportunity for all to gain experience participating in a clinical research study. Participants between the ages of 35 and 65 are needed for this study. The purpose of the study is to fill in what we don’t know about how schizophrenia affects people as they get older. We want to find out what we can do to help older individuals with schizophrenia live better lives. The study includes 4 visits over the course of two weeks. The screening visit will take 2 hours. The first study visit will take 3 hours. The second study visit will take 2 hours. The third study visit will take 9 hours. This study will include: a clinical interview, cognitive batteries, questionnaires and assessments related to your daily and psychiatric functioning, two 90 minute MRI scans of your brain, a fasting blood draw, and a urine drug screen and pregnancy test (for females). Study Information: Are you 18-60 years of age living with HIV, and want to be a part of a vaccine study? Is your viral load suppressed/undetectable? Are you able to receive a vaccine? Are you generally healthy? Are you willing to temporarily stop taking antiretrovirals? You may qualify for a study looking at testing an experimental HIV vaccine with an experimental adjuvant to see how the immune responses change among participants who do an antiretroviral analytical treatment interruption (ATI) compared to those who do not. Researchers from the UAB School of Optometry are currently recruiting those with dry eyes to participate in a research study looking at how a part of your eye's immune system called the complement system is involved in dry eye disease. The UAB Department of Psychiatry is recruiting healthy adolescent participants for a clinical research study. The study will compare healthy adolescents and adolescents with functional seizures (FS). If you are currently pregnant, 18 or older, planning to deliver at UAB, and planning to breast feed, you may be eligible for our study!This study focuses on better understanding breast milk composition, the presence or absence of CMV in breast milk, and its possible transmission to babies. CMV is a common virus that most people in the US are infected with by adulthood. Participants will meet with study staff once a month for six months to collect non-invasive samples and answer a questionnaire. Samples collected include oral swabs from you and your baby, a small quantity of breast milk and a skin swab from you, as well as a urine and stool sample from your baby. Participants will be compensated up to $300 for completing the study visits and providing samples.
