Is your viral load suppressed/undetectable? Are you able to receive a vaccine? Are you generally healthy? Are you willing to temporarily stop taking antiretrovirals? You may qualify for a study looking at testing an experimental HIV vaccine with an experimental adjuvant to see how the immune responses change among participants who do an antiretroviral analytical treatment interruption (ATI) compared to those who do not. Researchers from the UAB School of Optometry are currently recruiting those with dry eyes to participate in a research study looking at how a part of your eye's immune system called the complement system is involved in dry eye disease. If eligible, you will be asked to have your eyes evaluated three times, each visit being 3 to 17 days apart. Visit will last between 30 to 90 minutes. You will receive $150 if you are eligible for the study and complete all study procedures. DAY or NIGHT, when is the best time to take your blood pressure medication?Help us find out by participating in the PRECISION-BP research study investigating the effects of Sacubitril/Valsartan or Valsartan on your body’s 24-hour rhythm of a hormone in your blood called natriuretic peptides. This hormone and the study medications are related to the heart. Eligible participants must be obese (BMI: 30-45 kg/m2) men and women, have high blood pressure, and have no history of heart or kidney problems. The study involves wearing a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours, 24-hour inpatient visits at UAB Hospital, taking medications, and collecting blood and urine samples. Meals will be provided at no cost. Participants will be compensated $575 for completing the study visits. The UAB Department of Psychiatry is recruiting healthy adolescent participants for a clinical research study. The study will compare healthy adolescents and adolescents with functional seizures (FS). To participate in this research, you must:- be 11 to 18 years old- have no diagnosed medical conditions- have a parent/guardian available to participate in lab visitsIf you choose to participate in the study, you will be part of the healthy control group. If you are currently pregnant, 18 or older, planning to deliver at UAB, and planning to breast feed, you may be eligible for our study!This study focuses on better understanding breast milk composition, the presence or absence of CMV in breast milk, and its possible transmission to babies. CMV is a common virus that most people in the US are infected with by adulthood. Participants will meet with study staff once a month for six months to collect non-invasive samples and answer a questionnaire. Samples collected include oral swabs from you and your baby, a small quantity of breast milk and a skin swab from you, as well as a urine and stool sample from your baby. Participants will be compensated up to $300 for completing the study visits and providing samples. We are looking for people who identify as trans or cisgender, are 18-65 years of age and would like to take part in a research study examining the impact of gender identity, hormone levels and sex assigned at birth to pain sensitivity and immune cell activity. The commitment to this study will last approximately 3 hours where you will fill out questionnaires, have a single blood draw and take part in pain sensitivity testing. We are currently seeking Gulf War Veterans to participate in a brain imaging research study. Healthy Gulf War Veterans and Veterans with chronic health problems are invited to participate. Help us find out by joining our study. The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Department of Nutrition Sciences, is conducting an exciting research study, in collaboration with Pennington Biomedical Research Center, to investigate whether intermittent fasting or calorie restriction (i.e., losing weight) can improve health and slow the aging process. If you are randomly selected to do calorie restriction, you may lose weight by eating less. If you are randomly selected to do intermittent fasting, you will fast for 16 hours per day and eat dinner by 6 pm about 6 days per week (1 break day per week). We want you to be successful: the study provides intensive coaching and support to help you successfully lose weight or practice intermittent fasting. To qualify, you should: Be 25-45 years old Have a BMI between 22-30 Be healthy Not currently taking any medications or supplements for chronic conditions Not smoke, vape, or use tobacco products currently or within the last 6 months Not currently participate in a regular program of heavy physical activity (e.g., jogging, running, or riding fast on a bicycle for 30 minutes or more per day) The study involves collecting a medical history, body fat and bone scans, blood draws, urine collection, questionnaires, and other simple tests.
