The UAB Police Department is conducting an online survey as part of its accreditation review by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to review and complete the survey, which is posted on the BlazerNET Home tab, by Friday, May 4. (Log on to BlazerNET at blazernet.uab.edu .)

CALEA requires the UAB Police Department to survey citizens’ attitudes and opinions at least once every three years to evaluate?overall agency performance, overall competence of agency employees, citizens’ perception of officers’ attitudes and behavior, community concern over safety and security within the agency’s service and citizens’  recommendations and suggestions for improvement.

“We anticipate these responses will verify that the UAB Police Department meets the commission’s state-of-the-art standards and also provide us with the information we need to continue to improve our services to the community,” said UAB Police Chief Anthony Purcell.

The UAB Police Department is nationally accredited under CALEA guidelines. The department initially was accredited in July 1995 and re-accredited in July 2000 and May 2003. UAB is the third largest of 15 accredited law enforcement agencies at colleges and universities in the United States.
