UAB’s Equal Opportunity Policy was revised as of Jan. 1 of this year to reaffirm the university’s commitment to equal opportunity and nondiscrimination in education and employment.

The revised policy offers guidance on how to?raise concerns through both formal and?informal methods, as well as clarification?regarding how those concerns will be addressed.

The revised policy also encourages the resolution of issues through open dialogue by using an informal resolution process. It outlines specific resources within Human Resource Management, the Office of the Provost, the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and the Office of the Vice President for Equity and Diversity that are designed to provide managers and employees with assistance with any aspect of the informal and formal procedures.

“UAB freely and enthusiastically endorses diversity and equal opportunity as core values,” said UAB President Carol Garrison. “These values contribute to the strength of our educational mission and our effort to create a positive, supportive and diverse environment in which all faculty, staff and students can excel.

“Accordingly, we pursue a vigorous program of affirmative action and equal opportunity in its treatment of all persons, including current and prospective faculty, staff and students,” Garrison said.
