From televisions to cameras to cell phones, the digital age is in full throttle.

UAB Printing Services also recently opened its digital storefront at www.uab.edu/printmail , enabling you to place all of your print orders – from business cards to envelopes to four-color trifold brochures and magnets – online. By using the digital storefront you can build, proof and submit your print or copy project 24 hours a day.

Now UAB’s Printing Services group has jumped into the mix, recently purchasing and installing a top-of-the-line Xerox iGen3, a digital production press. The move to the digital format creates new opportunities for faculty and staff who have a short-run print job – or require that their print jobs get done today (if not sooner!).

And, in another major change in how Printing Services does business, you now can place all of your orders – from business cards to envelopes to four-color trifold brochures and magnets – through the group’s new digital storefront online at http://www.uab.edu/printmail/.

There, with just a click of the mouse, you can build, proof and submit your print or copy project 24 hours a day.

“The whole idea behind these improvements is to make it easier to do business with us,” said Stephen Murray, director of Business and Auxiliary Services. “We have to deliver high-quality products to our customers at a lower cost than our competition, which means that we have to focus on process efficiencies and continually work on improving access to our services.

“We want to continue to be the provider of choice for printing, copy and mail services for UAB and its affiliates, and know that the best way to accomplish this is by continuing to focus on the needs of our customers,” he said.

By offering a variety of printing solutions to offices throughout UAB, says Murray, the Printing Services group can help improve response rates and repeat orders, as well as increase revenues for the department. All of this helps contribute to the group’s ability to offer their services at prices lower than that of the competition.

Digital storefront makes ordering easy
The digital storefront enables UAB Printing Services to help clients – faculty, staff and students – customize the look of their products. It also has the capacity to provide detailed estimates through its advanced automated pricing engine, as well as to improve access to printing and copy services.

Customers will be able to manage their print jobs from www.uabprinting.com, see the production status of submitted jobs and place re-orders. The order history makes it easy for users to view and accept price quotes automatically. And, the digital storefront also provides a catalog that enables customers to browse categories, select a catalog item, add it to their shopping cart and place their order.

The digital storefront will continue to evolve during the next few months as products and pricing information are added, Murray said.

No stopping this press
One of the more impressive aspects of Printing Services’ new digital press is its speed. It can print up to 6,600 impressions per hour, ensuring a fast turnaround on jobs.

“We understand that sometimes things come down to the last minute,” Murray said. “With the iGen3 we’re going to be able – more often than not – to meet those demands by delivering high-quality print products faster and at very competitive price.

“We’d love the opportunity to serve you.”
