Another football season is ready to kick off and you still have a chance to become part of the hard-    hitting action with your team — the UAB Blazers.

UAB employees are being encouraged to support their Blazers this year through the “It’s Your Team” marketing campaign. “It’s Your Team” features UAB employees involved in various aspects of game activities with the team on postcards and posters. Shots include the employees leading the players onto the field, huddling up with players and coaches and even calling plays at the line of scrimmage.

“We set out to do something that would get noticed on campus and have an appeal to everybody while quickly communicating our message,” says Sam Miller, associate athletic director for marketing.

“Everybody dreams of leading the team onto the field or being in the huddle in the middle of the action. And mixing in folks from housekeeping to anesthesiology really hammers home that everybody at UAB is part of this big team.”

The employees featured in the “It’s Your Team” campaign are Dot Harris of Building Services, Henghui Zou in Mathematics, Erroll Hickenbottom in Creative and Marketing, Larry Kelley in Campus Maintenance and Julie Mummert in Undergraduate Admissions.

UAB employees can find out more about the campaign and sign up for season tickets by visiting the “It’s Your Team” Web site at www.uab.edu/yourteam. You can also view the football cards of employees featured in the promotion. And speaking of the football cards, all employees should be watching their mailbox in the coming days, too, where they will find their very own set of UAB football cards.

Being a UAB employee entitles you to a $58 savings off the retail price of a full season of Blazer football tickets. Employees also are eligible for payroll deduction, and purchasing two or more season tickets entitles you to a free Legion Field parking pass for the season.

This season UAB plays what Coach Watson Brown calls the program’s most ambitious schedule to date, including road games at Oklahoma, Georgia and Conference USA foe Southern Miss. The Blazers’ home schedule is equally exciting with East Carolina, Mississippi State, Troy, Memphis, Marshall and the Mike Price-led UTEP Miners all scheduled to visit Legion Field.

“Our non-conference schedule is fantastic,” Brown says. “Some would call it brutal, but I’d call it fantastic.”

The first game of the season is Saturday, Sept. 2, in Norman, Okla. Later in the month the Mississippi State game Sept. 23 begins a run of three straight home games with Troy coming in for Homecoming Sept. 30 and CUSA rival Memphis following Oct. 7.
