  • Grant wRiting InTensive Program (GRIT)
    The Grant wRiting InTensive (GRIT) program offers scholars 12 months of highly structured activities focused on specific steps in the extramural grant application process. From biosketches and specific aims to mentor selection and budgeting, GRIT provides invaluable guidance, structure, accountability, and group and/or one-on-one coaching to help early-stage investigators meet submission deadlines and craft competitive proposals and responsive resubmissions, as needed.   • Workshops for Skill-Building
    The RDO is happy to work with schools, departments, and divisions across campus to develop and deliver workshops and/or facilitate sessions geared towards increasing awareness of institutional resources, building research development skills, and advancing team science. Sessions and topics covered can be tailored to meet specific needs and may include navigating UAB’s research resources, finding funding opportunities, and writing a competitive grant proposal, and more!
  • Hanover Grants Learning Center
    Through the RDO partnership with Hanover Researchers, UAB faculty can access Hanover’s Grants Learning Center, which offers on-demand grantsmanship training designed specifically for higher education professionals. Available courses provide agency-specific federal funding support (e.g. NSF Career or NIH R-series), are self-paced, and provide interactive exercises, videos, and resources to navigate the proposal development and grant submission process.

  • Office of Research Training Hub
    Additional training related to the conduct of research and submission of extramural funding proposals at UAB can be found on the Office of Research Training Hub. Frequently used training for researchers working on extramural funding proposals include trainings related to UAB’s Integrated Research Administration Portal (IRAP), the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), and Office of Research E-reports.
