UAB Transportation incorporates accessible features and options for all our services. Our team strives to ensure our employees, students and visitors can easily get to, from and around our campus without issue. Parking

General Guidelines for Accessible Parking

Use of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant accessible parking in UAB-managed facilities requires an accessible parking permit from UAB Transportation. Parking without the UAB Transportation accessible parking permit may subject the vehicle to a citation (up to $500 fine) and/or towing.

Eligibility for Accessible Parking

To get a UAB Transportation accessible parking permit, individuals with permanent disabilities must already have a state-issued disability access parking credential* – also known as handicap placard. The credential/placard and registration must be in the name of the permitted UAB employee or student.

The sections below outline the steps for registering for a UAB Transportation accessible parking permit.

*Disabled individuals who are in the process of applying for a state-issued disability access parking credential may request a temporary accessible parking permit while they apply for the state-issued credential.

Medical-related Temporary Accessible Parking

Temporary accessible parking permit is available – based on limited availability – for up to 30-days in more convenient parking facilities for medical purposes, including pregnancy.

The temporary accessible parking permit is intended to provide individuals with enough time to obtain a state-issued disability access parking credential.

Registration Process

The individual must:

• bring a letter from their medical provider to the UAB Transportation office addressing their need for temporary accessible parking
• submit any current UAB parking permits
  • Current parking permits will be paused and access reserved until the end of the designated temporary accessible parking timeframe.

Cost

During the temporary accessible parking timeframe, the individual will be charged the rate in effect for the facility in which access is granted. This rate may differ from their regular parking rate.

Students

UAB Transportation has created an interactive student transportation map with adjustable layers to easily identify accessible student parking across UAB’s campus. Use the layers on the left side of the map to find the options you need.

Employees and Visitors

The UAB Campus Map includes a disability parking layer, identifying the locations around campus with accessible parking spaces.

UAB has implemented the ParkMobile service in certain parking areas, offering a modern solution for managing parking on campus. This service associates parking fee payments with your vehicle's license plate number, eliminating the need for gates and tickets, speeding up entry and exit to parking areas.

Benefits of Using ParkMobile:

• Seamless access: ParkMobile provides on-demand access to designated campus parking lots without physical permits.
• Instant registration: Quickly set up your parking session through the ParkMobile app, eliminating the wait for physical permit delivery.
• Real-time updates: Easily update your vehicle’s license plate information within the app at any time.
• License plate recognition: License plates must be visible from the driving lane. Drivers should not back in or pull through spaces unless your vehicle has a state-issued front license plate.
• Flexible payment options: Choose from various payment methods to purchase parking sessions directly within the app, such as Apple Pay or Google Pay.
• Environmentally friendly: Reduces waste by eliminating the need for physical parking materials.
• Customer support: Access ParkMobile’s customer support for assistance directly through the app.

Steps to Access Parking with ParkMobile:

1. Download the app: Obtain the ParkMobile app available for both iOS and Android devices.
2. Register your vehicle: Enter your vehicle's license plate number in the app to link it to your ParkMobile account.
3. Find parking: Available ParkMobile locations can be found in the ParkMobile app.
4. Ensure visibility: Make sure your license plate is visible from the driving lane whenever parked.
5. Purchase parking: Select the desired parking time frame and complete the purchase.
6. Extend parking time: Use the app to extend your parking time frame as needed.
