Student Checklist for Entry

UAB takes the health of your students and family members seriously. We are committed to providing the safest campus environment in the nation while providing a world-class education to our undergraduate and graduate students. We encourage you to download our CHECKLIST and review this information with your student to ensure they understand the requirements to return to campus and expectations for keeping our community safe.

Non-compliance with the required items will result in students not being able to remain on campus or participate in any in-person classes, meetings, jobs, extracurricular activities, and events.

Student Entry Testing

All UAB students must be tested for COVID-19 before they can come to campus. Learn more about student entry testing.

Campus Safety Measures

We are working hard to deliver a meaningful Blazer experience to our students this fall, but the campus experience will be different. Schedules will be staggered and spaces will be labeled to ensure students are physically distant and safe. We encourage you to remind your students of these important guidelines:

Social Distancing

Social Distancing

Classroom seating, elevators, building lobbies, residence halls, and other shared spaces will be marked with signage reminding students to stay six feet apart at all times. In some cases, such as classrooms, seats will be designated as available/unavailable.

Mandatory Masking

Mandatory Masking

Students must be masked in all interior spaces, including classrooms; they cannot enter classrooms without a face covering. UAB is providing your student with a reusable mask, but it's important that they have several of their own. Students are strongly encouraged to wear masks in outdoor spaces when six-foot distancing cannot be observed.

Crowding

Crowding

UAB Facilities has identified the safest flow of foot traffic inside and around buildings. Students should follow signage to keep crowding in lobbies and hallways to a minimum. Only 2 number of people will be allowed in elevators and must face away from each other. It is recommended to take the stairs, where up/down stairwells will be marked.

All visitors must either complete the GuideSafe™ Healthcheck and Passport or provide evidence of a recent negative test or other medical clearance. Clearance must be presented when arriving to campus, along with their event ticket when applicable. Visitors should be strongly encouraged to download the GuideSafe™ Exposure Notification application BEFORE coming to campus.

Communications to Students

UAB administration, clinicians, and researchers—along with state and county public health officials—are constantly monitoring the spread of COVID-19 in our area. The situation remains highly fluid. UAB is regularly emailing and texting students with important information on their return to campus.

Please remind your student to check their UAB email address on a daily basis.

Visiting Campus

To minimize the risk of COVID-19 being brought to campus, visitor access must be limited. Visitors should be pre-approved and should come to UAB only by invitation or for specific events. This includes, but is not limited to advisors, vendors, volunteers, and attendees coming to campus for an athletic, fine arts, or other on-campus event.

Access to on-campus housing is restricted until further notice. Only residents will be allowed access to the living spaces in an on-campus housing facility. This restriction excludes employees, security personnel, and other individuals having an essential reason to access the facility. An “essential reason” will be pre-approved by campus housing or an organization’s house corps. This restriction applies to the living spaces in all on-campus housing facilities. This restriction applies to living spaces in sorority and fraternity houses, but does not prevent general members from accessing the house for meals or approved meetings in accordance with programming requirements for student organizations.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham has taken a proactive approach to limit the spread of COVID-19. The health and safety of all guests, faculty, staff and students are top priorities for the University. We are requiring all vendors and guests to wear a mask. Please feel free to bring your own mask or you may use a disposable mask that will be provided. We will ask any guest who displays symptoms related to COVID-19, has experienced symptoms related to COVID-19 in the past fourteen (14) days or who has come in contact with someone with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past fourteen (14) days not to participate in activities on campus. UAB is regularly cleaning our facilities, practicing social distancing and limiting the number of people on our campus.

Visitors are strongly encouraged to download the GuideSafe™️ Exposure Notification application BEFORE coming to campus.
