I joined the UAB Fast Track program after transferring from a different university and after trying several different majors. It wasn’t until I attended math classes at UAB that I found my spark in life. The subject is fascinating and challenging. The UAB Math Department offers many opportunities to students beyond just solving math problems individually: small group discussions, giving presentations, and programming computers. I also participated in the LMU-UAB exchange program, attending classes in Munich, Germany. This deepened my appreciation of the larger world we live in.

My advisor at UAB was Dr. Chernov, from whom I learned so many things, not just about math but also about life. He was a true mentor and I thank him for that very much. In the end, I did not complete the Ph.D.; I switched paths to enter the business world. Later I obtained my Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society, and I attribute much of my successes today to the skills and wisdom I gained while in the UAB Math Department.
