I am presently serving as an Adjunct Instructor for the Graduate Program for Teaching English as a Second Language at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  I enjoy collaborating with in-service and pre-service education professionals to create learning environments that provide opportunities for all students to thrive. During my previous twenty-seven year career in the K-12 arena, I served as an ESL Resource Teacher, taught Spanish and English at the middle and high school levels and ESL at the intermediate and middle school levels.

I earned a Bachelor's in English and Spanish at the University of Montevallo in 1986 and a Master's in Education in 1992 from UAB. I was a member of the first cohort of Project EQUAL at UAB and completed my ESL certification in 2005. I completed an EdS in Secondary English Language Arts at UAB in 2011. I  also completed a Master of Science in Instructional Design and Development at UAB in 2020.

As a life-long learner, I continuously seek opportunities to add fresh perspectives to my funds of knowledge. I am a member of various professional organizations and attend and present at professional conferences throughout the U.S. I also enjoy traveling and learning about other cultures. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and trying new jam recipes using the fruit from the mini pear orchard in my back yard.
