Abby Becker uncroppedI am currently serving as an Adjunct Instructor in the Graduate Program for Teaching English as a Second Language at UAB. I also teach young English Learners (ELs) at Hall-Kent Elementary in Homewood. I have focused on K-2 EL education at Hall-Kent since 2005, and love supporting my diverse students and their families. I champion oral storytelling as a powerful strategy for motivating language development, and enjoy providing empathy-building professional development experiences for my fellow educators.

I am a National Board Certified Teacher in Teaching English as a New Language/Early through Middle Childhood. I completed my Ed.S. in Teacher Leadership at UWA in 2018. I earned my M.A.Ed. in ESL at UAB in 2007, and have a BA in Spanish and Retail Merchandising from the University of Montevallo.

I am honored to be a recipient of a 2018-19 U.S. Department of State Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program grant.

I am married to Jon. We have two dachshunds, Macy and Leo. We have lived in the UAB neighborhood for more than 10 years and enjoy being in an exciting and dynamic area. Reading and quilting are my favorite hobbies.
