I am presently serving as an Adjunct Instructor and Intern Supervisor for the Graduate Degree Program for Teaching English as a Second Language at UAB. I am also a K-5th grade ESL Teacher in Shelby County. Previously I taught ESL for Birmingham City Schools since 1989. Prior to that, I was a 6th grade classroom teacher for 7 years.

I earned a Bachelor's in Elementary Education in 1979, a Master's in Education in ESL in 2004 and an EdS in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2012. I am Nationally Board Certified in English as a New Language, Early through Middle Childhood. I am honored to have been a STELLAR mentor for other teachers who were interested in becoming Nationally Certified, as well as a mentor for The Center for Urban Education (UTEP).

I understand the challenges facing our English Language Learners and their families because both sets of my grandparents emigrated from Italy. I have a very supportive husband and three children.
