We have many options for those interested in furthering their teaching careers, whether it’s in a specialty area like English as a Second Language (ESL) or Educational Leadership – we have the graduate program that will push your teaching career to new heights in any direction you choose in traditional, hybrid, and fully online formats.
A Higher Degree in Education Equates to a Higher Salary in Alabama
Teachers in Alabama public schools with a master’s degree in every specialty will start their teaching careers with a $6,501 higher salary than a teacher with a bachelor’s degree. Arts Education
Do you want to grow your skills as an art or music educator? The Arts Education program at UAB has two concentrations (visual and music) that can help prepare individuals for successful careers as 9-12 teachers. The concentrations are both collaborations with the music and the art departments to ensure students are well-versed in the subject matter they are teaching and comfortable creating lesson plans to convey those skills to young children or adults.
Early Childhood Education
UAB’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) programs teach educators to recognize and meet the evolving needs of birth-to-age-eight students in their earliest exposure to education. Candidates in our graduate Early Childhood Education program learn how to be teacher-leaders in their communities, fostering a love for learning that will impact young children’s first educational experience.
Educational Leadership
Have you been considering a career outside of the classroom leading fellow teachers and developing strategies to create change in school communities? The Educational Leadership program at UAB is designed to prepare current teachers with the leadership and administrative skills needed to be an effective, ethical, and impactful leader that teachers, students, staff, and communities need now more than ever.
Educational Studies in Diverse Populations
This program helps prepare you to conduct research and lead innovation that enhances educational and life outcomes for diverse populations in P–12, post-secondary, and community settings. Such diverse populations include culturally and linguistically diverse individuals, those with disabilities, those from high-poverty backgrounds, those impacted by gender bias or bias related to sexual orientation, and those with other learning or behavioral differences.
Elementary Education
Our Elementary education program is designed to allow teachers to build innovative lesson plans, classroom management skills, and more for the evolving needs of young learners. Our program is 100% online, so current teachers can take courses to advance their careers while working full-time.
eSports Performance Management and Coaching Graduate Certificate
Whether you are a recreational gamer or a passionate gamer looking for a career in eSports, this graduate certificate is calling you. It is designed to provide performance management and coaching skills for students interested in pursuing a career in eSports. You can earn this as a stand-alone graduate credential or incorporate it into the Graduate School’s master’s degrees in interdisciplinary Graduate Studies, this certificate is your gateway to a dynamic industry with limitless potential.
English as a Second Language
Teaching students whose native language is not English is a growing need in Alabama. Earning a Master of Arts in Education in English as a Second Language current teachers will develop strategies to teach math and science and new languages to English language learners, engaging families in a multi-cultural community, and more.
Learning Design and Learning Sciences
The Learning Design & Learning Sciences program prepares creative and adaptable learning scientists and designers who can transform learning in diverse contexts. Our cutting-edge curriculum is based on learning sciences theories, methodologies, and technologies that will help enable you to design complex and transformative learning experiences for rapidly evolving contexts.
Physical Education
Do you love moving and teaching others the importance of living a healthier lifestyle through physical fitness? Master the craft of teaching physical education with UAB’s Masters’ of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in physical education teacher certification fully online.
School Psychology
Re-train as a School Psychologist today in UAB’s new innovative and fully online School Psychology program. The role of a school psychologist is to assess, consult, and provide prevention and direct intervention services that focus on learning, behavior, and mental health problems. UAB’s School Psychology program stresses the expanded role of the school psychologist beyond testing for special education. You will take courses that focus on consultation, interdisciplinary collaboration, crisis intervention, group, and behavioral intervention.
School Psychometry
Are you interested in analyzing and identifying the needs of students who have learning disabilities and creating effective curriculum plans that will best fit their needs? The UAB School Psychometry program will train you identify and create effective interventions to help young children reach their full learning potential.
Secondary Education
Increase your skillset as middle school and high school teacher or transition to a career in teaching through UAB’s secondary education master’s program. We offer concentrations in Biology, Chemistry, General Science, Mathematics, Physics, English Language Arts, General Social Science, and History.
Special Education
Our UAB Special Education Program is fully online and features interdisciplinary courses that are both rigorous and innovative. We offer specialties such as the Collaborative Teacher (CT) K-6 & 6-12, Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE), and a Collaborative Special Education Degree with a concentration in reading. Students learn early intervention and preschool curriculum and methods, collaborative processes, technology applications, physical and healthcare support in early childhood education, lesson planning, and positive behavioral supports.
