Orientation & Onboarding
Discover UAB (for University employees) provides a comprehensive “first look” at UAB, including its core values, essential expectations, and important resources. New Hires will receive the date for their Discover UAB session from Talent Acquisition. Employees will also be able to speak with a Benefits Specialist at the optional Benefits session, which is held after the Discover UAB program.

Eligibility
Learning & Development services are provided as a benefit to UAB staff and faculty. Our services are not available to students, alumni, affiliates, or external individuals. We require a month's (30 days) notice for private programs. Most of our Learning Calendar-based public programs require a minimum 15 participants for the program to take place.

These assessment options examine a group’s collective performance, dynamics, and effectiveness. They involve analyzing individual strengths, communication patterns, collaboration, and overall team cohesion. These assessments aim to enhance communication channels and optimize each team member’s skills to achieve common goals.

The DISC Behavior Model is an assessment tool used in workplaces and in personal development settings. The DISC model aims to help individuals understand and improve their communication, teamwork, and overall interpersonal effectiveness. Understanding Your True Colors
True Colors is an easy and fun way to identify your spectrum of personality preferences. The process establishes a common language by which we communicate core motivations, behaviors and esteem. Key benefits of this interactive process include enhanced understanding of self and others; the appreciation of differences within each of us. When used appropriately, the process can result in reduced conflict and more productive relationships.

Retreat Planning/Facilitation
Learning & Development improves team performance, cooperation, alignment of team development, retreat design and facilitation, and consultancy. Our offerings include:
- Strategic Planning: We help organizations set goals, plans, and objectives that align with UAB culture and strategy. Using strategic planning skills, we help you identify environmental opportunities, risks, and challenges, and develops solutions.
- Leadership Development: We help you build trust and engagement through the use of techniques that help team members grow and contribute in a supportive work environment.
- Boost Team Positivity and Productivity: This entails discussing building relationships, and communication.
Learning & Development Specialist
Laura Beth Rogers is a Learning & Development Specialist for the Learning & Development Department at UAB. Before coming to HR, she worked as a Pre-Health Advisor at UAB. Laura Beth spent five years in higher education, predominantly at midsize and large institutions.
Laura Beth has a Bachelor of Arts in English from UAB and a Master of Education in Higher Education from Auburn University.
She enjoys reading, writing, meeting new people, and trying new things. Some of Laura Beth's hobbies are interior design, enjoying classic rock, and being an avid Auburn Tigers Fan.
