Your Social Worker is your FIRST point of contact for questions regarding payment procedures, insurance, and policies. Discounted fees (based on Federal poverty guidelines) are available for 1917 Outpatient and Dental Clinic Services.

The Clinic (through the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation) will file your insurance claims. Most types of insurance are accepted by the Clinic, including Medicare and Medicaid. You will be mailed a bill for any charges not covered by your insurance.

If you are unable to pay these charges in full, a payment schedule can be set up with the billing office. Your Social Worker can answer any questions about payment procedures and policies.

The 1917 Clinic receives Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Modernization Act funding to provide access to comprehensive health care for low-income, uninsured and under-insured HIV infected adults regardless of any pre-existing or non-HIV related condition(s). Veterans:  In accordance with HRSA “Policy Notice - 07- 07,” September 28, 2007; Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program grantees (1917 Clinic) may not deny services, including prescription drugs, to a veteran who is otherwise eligible for Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program services. Patients with VA health benefits are considered as “uninsured,” which in effect excepts these veterans from the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program “payer of last resort” requirement.

1917 Clinic social workers document the existence of VA health benefits, make patients aware of the availability of VA HIV/AIDS health services and make notation that the veteran’s health benefits are not considered the veteran’s primary insurance. No veteran is denied access to Ryan White services based on their VA health benefit status.

Many Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program grantees have a long standing relationship with the VA, their local VA health care facility and enrollment office. HRSA encourages patients to meet with VA staff and providers, learn more about VA’s health care eligibility and enrollment, and services provided to HIV-infected veterans in order to have optimal Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program and veterans coordination.

For additional information about other VA benefits eligibility, including housing, education and training, vocational rehabilitation and employment benefits and services for homeless veterans check the Veterans Administration Web site or contact a VA benefits office at 1-877-222-VETS. Each year the VA publishes and updates the Federal Benefits for Veterans and Dependents pamphlet.
