The UAB Center for Exercise Medicine (UCEM) focuses on improving the health and well-being of children and adults of all ages through acceleration of innovative, exercise-based interdisciplinary research across five pillars – precision, regeneration, rehabilitation, interaction, and sustainability.

Interested in participating in exercise research?

We are looking for volunteers for various exercise-based studies to help understand the role of exercise as medicine at the molecular, cellular and clinical levels. By participating, you receive supervised exercise training from certified trainers, valuable information about your health.

Our Studies and Services

Training & Education

UCEM offers a multi-tiered education and training program structured for exercise medicine researchers ranging from undergraduates to senior scientists.

 

Abstract Submission:
Students and trainees from any institution are invited to submit abstracts for poster presentation competition on basic, clinical, translational, and population science that are broadly related to: exercise medicine and/or neuroscience.

Poster Presentation competition:
Abstracts selected for poster presentation competition to be held on September 16, 2024 will be announced on Monday, September 2, 2024.

Oral Presentation:
A few abstracts will be selected for flash talk competition to be held on September 17, 2024. Selection announcements will be emailed during the last week of August 2024. Abstracts will be reviewed and selections will be made by the Education Committee.
Note - Principal authors of abstracts selected for oral presentation can also participate in the poster competition.   

Awards:
Principal authors of the winning posters and oral presenters (as determined by faculty judges) will each receive a travel award.
Students and trainees from any institution are eligible for travel awards.

Abstract Guidelines:
Limit of 350 words in the abstract body, excluding title and authors. The abstract body should be formatted with the following headings: Purpose, Methods, Results, Conclusions, Future Directions, and Acknowledgments. Use Arial, 11-point font, left justified, single line spacing, with 1-inch margins. Any embedded figures or tables must use no less than 9-point font. 

The title is limited to two lines of bold, Arial 11-point font. Immediately below the title, list all authors and their affiliations. The presenter must be the first author, and the author’s position should be listed above the abstract body.
**Submission of an abstract previously presented at a regional or national meeting is welcome**

Abstract Submission Deadline - 5 p.m. on August 9, 2024

NOTE: Anyone submitting abstracts should also register to attend the symposium.
