Star21 Awardee and Immunology Institute trainee, Eddie-Williams Owiredu, was selected as student speaker for the David E. Wells Memorial Symposium on May 21, 2025. Congratulations to him for winning the "Best Presentation" award!


Bailey Echols accepted to the CCTS Predoctoral Clinical/Translational Research Program
Bailey Echols, AMC21 awardee mentored by Eason Hildreth, has been accepted to the CCTS Predoctoral Clinical/Translational Research Program (T32). His project centers around the role of the transcription factor PU.1 in renal cell carcinoma progression. His two-year appointment will begin on July 1, 2025.
Eddie-Williams Owiredu and Stephanie Suinn won at the GBS Symposium Presentation
At the GBS Symposium, students presented their research in three formats: oral presentations, flash talk presentations, and a poster session. Students across all themes presented their research to postdoc judges, faculty, and peers.
Eddie-Williams Owiredu won the second place of the oral presentation and Stephanie Suinn won the second place of the poster session presentation.

Eddie-Williams Owiredu presented as the Robert Stroud Advanced Immunology Trainee Scholar
The “Robert Stroud Advanced Immunology Trainee Seminar” was held on May 16th, 2024. Immunology trainees compete for this excellent opportunity to present their studies to an intelligent, critical but friendly home crowd by submitting an abstract. This year, Eddie-Williams Owiredu (Mentor: Frances E. Lund, PhD, Microbiology) won the competition and gave a 20 minute presentation, followed by a 5 minute questions and answers session.
The title of Eddie-William Owiredu’s presentation is “The effect of IRF1 on B cell dynamics and autoimmunity”.

Abigail Brooks received the KUH PRIME TL1 pre-doctoral fellowship
Abigail Brooks competed for one of the predoctoral spots in the institutional KUH PRIME TL1 that Nephrology holds and received the predoctoral fellowship. The goal of the grant is to train graduate students in kidney research.
AMC21 scholar Eddie-Williams Owiredu won award at the 2023 Vaccine Lecture and Symposium
Eddie won the top poster presentation in the senior trainee category at the 2023 Vaccine Lecture and Symposium. The event was held at the UAB Alys Stephens Center on October 11, 2023.
