The NSF funded REU program, Summer Program in Neuroscience (SPIN), seeks to provide an intensive basic neuroscience research experience for students without significant neuroscience research at their college/university. As well, SPIN provides students with detailed professional development training to prepare for success in applying and adjusting to Ph.D. focused, graduate education.
SPIN has launched its application process for summer 2021. The program will run June 7- July 30, 2021. Applications to participate will be accepted now through Feburary 15, 2021. Applications are accepted through the UAB SOM Clinical and Research Undergraduate Summer Programs. SPIN seeks to ensure the best science through diversity. Students from traditionally under-represented groups and first generation college students are particularly encouraged to apply. Complete application packets will be reviewed after the February deadline. Finalists will then participate in phone interviews with the program director before final selection.
At the time of application, interested students will need to provide:
1) the name and email address of at least 1 reference. SPIN will solicit direct submission of a letter from this referee.
2) a current transcript
3) provide relevant short answer responses describing motivation and goals for involvement in the SPIN REU as detailed on the application form.
