Kidney Injury Research
We Are an NIH-sponsored George M. O'Brien Kidney Research Center
We support shared core facilities to enhance collaborations and further research in kidney-related research, foster interactions among investigators from different backgrounds and disciplines whose shared interest is in kidney research, and provide intellectual resources and infrastructure to attract new and established investigators to AKI research. We're supported by a P30 grant (DK 079337) from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).
Cores
The UAB-UCSD O'Brien Center is made up of three biomedical research cores and a biostatistical resource with the goals of providing gold standard services in the area of kidney disease to enhance research foster collaborations.
Pilot and Feasibility Program
The UAB-UCSD O'Brien Center Pilot and Feasibility (PAF) Grants program provides seed funds for new, outstanding, and innovative research proposals related to Acute Kidney Injury (AKI). These pilot funds provide eligible investigators with one to two years of support along with the resources necessary to explore investigator-initiated projects related to AKI.
Workshops, Symposia and Training Opportunities
The UAB-UCSD O'Brien Center offers workshops on techniques and methods to help investigators better apply these to their research programs. There are symposia and courses to help enhance understanding and expertise of investigators and trainees interested in understanding more about kidney disease. Training opportunites are available for students interested in learning more about research in renal labs but also for faculty and staff who are looking for one-on-one training in specific techniques.
