Kidney Injury Research
We are an NIH-sponsored George M. O'Brien Kidney National Resource Center
We support shared core facilities to enhance collaborations and further research in kidney-related research, foster interactions among investigators from different backgrounds and disciplines whose shared interest is in kidney research, and provide intellectual resources and infrastructure to attract new and established investigators to AKI research. We're supported by a U54 grant (DK 137307) from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).
Cores
The UAB-UCSD O'Brien Center is made up of two Biomedical Resource Cores and a Resource Develoment Core with the goals of providing gold standard services in the area of kidney disease to enhance research foster collaborations.
Pilot and Feasibility Program
The O'Brien Kidney Consortium supports the Pilot and Feasibility (PAF) Grants program through their Opportuniy Pool and is designed to fund science that can expand the impact of the O’Brien Consortium with a focus on supporting early-stage investigators, especially those under-represented in the medical sciences and mid-career and senior investigators who are new to kidney research.
Enrichment Program
The UAB-UCSD O'Brien Center offers workshops on techniques and methods to help investigators better apply these to their research programs. There are symposia and courses to help enhance understanding and expertise of investigators and trainees interested in understanding more about kidney disease. Training opportunities such as Summer Student Training Program (SSTP) are available for students interested in learning more about research in renal labs but also for faculty and staff who are looking for one-on-one training in specific techniques.
